I know this topic has been covered before, but I just wanted to address it more specifically I guess.

Since 9/1 I've got some letters/emails from schools that say they "Like what they see" and invite me to their camps others just invite to their camps but want me to come to their camp, I can't tell if it's genuine or not. Is it alright to write back and ask?

You can call the coach and talk to him. You can email them and tell them you are interested in their program and got a letter saying they liked what they saw and invited you to their camp. Tell them you do not have the resources to attend every camp invite you have gotten and you really want to focus on the camps where there is serious interest. See what the coaches say.

Yes many camp invites are just a way to bring in kids to make some money. But if you impress at the camp its a good way to get your foot in the door and sometimes even an offer. I think it is only being smart on your part to contact them and see where you stand. If a coach is truly interested in you they will not have a problem at all with you calling or sending an email. And you can pick up pretty quick if they know who you are from the conversation or if this was simply a generic invite to attend. Good luck

Coach,

This is really good advise to ask their level of interest during these tough economic times. The only question is if you will do this early in the recruiting process, you may risk turning off a coach but on the other hand the coach who is truly interested may not mind answering it.

Interest level is a legitimate question and one that you should not be afraid to ask, just be polite and be prepared for the answer.

Camp invites can fall into three categories... generic, specific and personal. Personal invites indicate a higher level of interest.

E-mail or call and ask if they are recruting your position, for your graduation year. If your a MIF and they have 5-6 MIF's signed, it's not an automatic "no" but it's more likely.

I would be encouraged by " I like what I see"!!

Good luck, it's tough to figure out, but in the end it's all worth it.
