Interesting Coach Response

Don't take personally and just move on. I do agree with you on the 95 lefty. They always have a spot for guys that throw mid 90's.

I'd take it as a positive.  cross them off the list and move on.  don't waste any more time with them

I really didn't want to be the first to respond, but I thought the email was kind and probably honest.   If it is a big "State U", they probably ARE finished with their 2017 recruiting.   Did you go to the PG website to see how many have committed?

If your son is shooting out email updates anyway, sure, keep them on the list.  Or not.  

Assuming this is one of your collection of schools in "recruiting net", move on. I would agree about the left P comment...wonder if this is a school who has overcommitted in past and trying to achieve a balance? Or a school with a JV team this year, but none in your son's year. Looking at their roster, did this response surprise you?

Could also mean a coaching change is in the works and the "new guy" will want to bring his recruits in, and not inherit what's there. Just speculating...

Moved on as soon as we got the response. That's not an issue. Just thought the response was interesting.   

It pretty late for a 2016 HS grad to start a conversation with a large state school. Most D1 schools have their 2016 class locked in. Of course, if a 2016 grad has seen a jump in velocity then there could be an exception. I believe that Auburn and Miami just signed 2016 pitchers but these were kids who were recently low to mid 80's who jumped up to the low 90's in showcases over last couple of months

I have been here a very long time and have seen many posts regarding parents or players feeling they were not treated fairly in recruiting, either because the coach called once or twice or they never got a response back from their email.

I am not seeing this as interesting but rather an honest answer that they are not interested at this time. Stop trying to read into more than it is. Move on, keep the lines of communication open but know you maybeon their C list.  This is part of recruiting, not every coach will be interested in your son and your son will not be interested in every coach.  If you let this stuff bother you, chances are you are going to not have a very positive experience in recruiting. When son was in teh recruiting phase a program he was interested told him they didn't have enough money, we didn't take it personally, but moved on. It happens to tall righties and lefties throwing the heat as well. The only thing different is that they may have more initial interest, but most good college recruiters don't offer every guy they like either.

The most important thing to remember is that your son must make sure that he is targeting schools that will be a good fit for him AND for the program.

I agree with TPM, PABaseballDad, PickedOff, RipkenFan and Keewart.  Look on the positive side....now, your son knows where to NOT waste his time and money trying to figure out why they aren't responsive or interested.  Focus on those schools that are looking for a juniior RHP throwing mid-80s.  This can be a blessing in disguise.

It sounds to me like they have all their recruits & transfers committed.

Just curious, what level was this school?  Was it a top program or lower? Also, what is son writing in his emails? How much info is he sharing?

All, just a point of clarification, as soon as we received the response we crossed the school off the list.  There was not attempt to read anything into it other the, "your not playing here".  I just through the actual response was interesting.  Have a hard time seeing any school saying they are not recruiting for a specific class. 

I did go back and look at their roster.  Looks like they lost about 9 Sr's after last season and then only 3 Jr's this year.  The majority of the team is made up of Fr and Soph's.  Which looks like it coincides with a coaching change.  Im guessing they have a decent sized class coming in this year and probably only have 1 or 2 spots open for the 2017 recruiting class, which they probably already have commitments for.

D1 middle of the pack Big 10 school.  Historically finished around .500 each year.  Looks like they did a little better the last two after a coaching change.  

These were just cold call intro emails.  Two short paragraphs....Hey here is my name, GPA, size, position, HS team and summer team.  In addition we include an attachment with his "athletic resume" listing out a lot more detailed information.  Most of the schools we are targeting are very familiar with his summer team and have contacts within them.  Between his size and the fact that his program has a good reputation here in the midwest we are finding that this opens the door to more communication.  I would say its about 50% schools asking for follow up info, 25% rejections or no response and 25% replying with the standard camp invite.

joe - I really don't find it all that interesting to be frank.  As others said, they did you a favor.  They have already filled their 2017 class and they told you fairly directly.

Move on.

I think Joe's point is they didn't say they already filled their 2017 class, they said "We do not anticipate adding ANY players to our roster in 2017".  Perhaps the coach forgot a word, like ANY MORE players to our roster in 2017....that would have made more grammatical sense.

Lets not get silly here.  They did it politely, if not awkwardly.  But make no mistake about it.  Time to move on.

I wish some of you would stop trying to analyze whats meant or strange in every email, every sentence, every form letter, etc.
