Those of us in the Chicago area may have heard about the family of Jesse Alcozer. This story really hit me...it could be any one of our families...and if it were we would step up I'm sure. The following is a list of Mr. Alcozer's unhappy misfortunes.

In the last three years-

Mr. Alcozer lost his job when his company moved overseas.

Mr. Alcozer served in Vietnam as a Marine. He spent two days alone in a jungle after his battalion was ambushed and he was wounded. Now his veteran benefits are being reduced.

Mr. Alcozer's 21 year old son, Christopher, serving our country as a Marine, was killed while fighting in Iraq this past November.

The Alcozer's lost their house and most all of their possessions in a house fire in Elmhurst on December 27th. The fire, sadly, was caused by a candle that was burning as a memorial to Christopher.

Mr. Alcozer had to endure the ugly presence of 'protesters' at his son's funeral.

Lt. Governor Pat Quinn is urging citizens to help out this family. This patriotic family has sacrificed and lost so much.

From the Chicago Tribune (01-03-06) the 57 year old Mr. Alcozer is quoted...

"I want to provide for my family. I can't do it by myself now."

"A lot of people got an easier life than I have, but I believe in the good word. I don't want the kids to feel like they've lost their strength."

How about it websters...can we help them out when they need it most?

UPDATE

A news item on a local Chicago area radio station
just reported the fund established to help the Jesse
Alcozer family has reached $250,000 ...way to go guys!
Thanks for your help...such a deserving family...peo-
ple from all over the nation stepped up...what a wonder-
ful country.

Special tip of the cap to Illinois Lt. Governor
Pat Quinn for his efforts in this case and his continued
support for special legislation to dampen the bizarre
protesting that is occuring at soldiers' funerals around
Illinois. A religious group from Kansas is going around the
nation and using the stage surrounding the soldiers'
funerals to publicly advance their anti-homosexuality
agenda...it's the stage they seek...they even brought
their bizarre protesting to the funerals last week
for the coal-miners that perished in West Virginia. They're
entitled to hold whatever beliefs they wish...they shouldn't
be allowed to disrupt these solemn events...this one is prob-
ably going to end up being heard by the Supreme Court...free
speech issues.

Thanks again for your support of the Alcozer family.

An article in the Chicago Tribune, 03/30/06, Metro Near West section, states that the Alcozer family "took a step toward getting back to normal, as they showed off their Elmhurst home they will be living in, one bought with donations and rehabilitated at cost."

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn said donations totaled $409,208.00, which covered a down payment for the house and the contractor's out-of-pocket costs for extensive remodeling......

"The people of Illinois and the people of America can be very proud of what they've done for a good man and his family." said Quinn.

This article is also very nice with more touching photos of Mr. Alcozer and his family.

Thanks so much HSBBW websters for helping to give this unfortunate family hope and the sense of good will. You're the best!
