Jesuit center fielder Josh Bell will pass on a scholarship offer from the University of Texas to receive a record Major League Baseball bonus according to Baseball America and MLB.com.

Bell, who wrote a letter to the MLB Scouting Bureau declaring his intentions to attend Texas, received a $5 million bonus – the most ever given a player drafted outside of the first round, from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates drafted Bell with the first pick of the second round. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Greater Dallas All-VYPE Baseball Team.
