Joe Torre to retire

The Dodgers have announced he will retire at season's end.
What a loss for an organization that needs people of integrity, since it seems to be lacking in the owners box.
An equally big loss for baseball, in my opinion.
Ned Colletti's comments seem right:

"Joe Torre has been a great friend, a strong leader and an incredible presence for this organization and I cannot thank him enough for his service to the Dodgers. I respect his decision to step aside and I look forward to the day where I can watch him take his rightful place in Cooperstown among baseball's legends."

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'

Torre is 70 years old and has had a difficult run with the Dodgers considering the divorce of the owners, having Manny which would age anyone five years, and just relating to twentysomething year old millionaires. I feel he is too old to take a few years off to recharge, so my gut feeling is that he is through managing. Word is out that he will stay with the Dodgers as an adviser and consultant.

Joe Torre goes to the BRAVES!

Well, could be. Just heard an interview where it sounded as if he is still "very much interested" in baseball although the "situation there" would best be served by him moving on and Don Mattingly taking over."

Joe played in Atlanta, liked it here and who better to try to replace an ICON in Bobby Cox, than another ICON. Not sure that the current front runner for the job, Freddie Gonzales, has enough "weight" to get her done.

I wonder????
