These are great post.I have learned so much from HSBB.We went up and down on our ''ride'' of recruiting and everything said on this site is true.I found out don't be in a hurry to say yes,no matter what the coachs say.We went from no school interest to 16 colleges just after one showcase. The more we held out the better the money. My son was offered two full scholarships. He is very happy and we learned everything from this web site.Be happy and go to a program where you are going to play, you learn nothing from sitting on the bench
Good for you and your son and your family, ay.

Which showcase did you attend that generated all the interest in your son? I am still planning for my 2005 this summer. Can you expand on your two full scholarships that were offered your son? Was there a combination of athletic and academic money?

I remember July 1, 2003. My son who is a pretty good ballpayer hung around the house most of the day waiting for a call. At 8:00pm he had enough and went out with his friends. At 10:00pm the phone rang, it was a college coach who told me he had been watching my son for a couple of years and wanted to talk to him about a scholarship. The coach apologized for calling so late but explained to me that he went to the game of the other top recruit that he was looking to sign. I don't think my son got another call until the next week but got about 20 calls over the course of the summer. My advice is don't go crazy on July 1st.
My son wound up signing with the college that called him on July 1st. Good luck to all 2005's and don't worry if you don't get a call on July 1st there's a lot more days afterwards when a coach may call.

Beenthere IL=="Another webster success story" Yes sir,I though my son would be seen by scouts at Highschool,AAU, and Legion games, that did not happen.I started reading this web site and found out about 'showcases'.This web site changed everything I know about recruiting, you can not sit back and wait, you must be aggressive.I wrote every MLB team about my son and e-mailed all the local scouts,I found all this information right here and started my own ''recruiting process''.Several scouts invited my son to showcases, the one that helped the best was in Maryland put on by Mike Toomey of the Expos. There were 15 pro scouts and 20 college scouts. My son did very well,LHp and hit 87mph on the gun and has a great breaking ball. After this showcase the letters and calls came in.It changed my sons life.As of today 16 colleges have contacted us.Four DIII schools put financial packages together, grants and loans, one DII school gave a part scholarship, another DII gave a full scholarship for baseball, one NAIA school put together a scholarship and grant program, the DII and DIII programs are very well put together and we had very little out of pocket money.Three DI schools have offered packages of part Scholarship and Grant and Student loan.My son will be at a DI college next year, they have lost almost all their pitching staff and he will be fighting for a starters job.Everything you need to know about getting your son to the next level is here on this web site,E=mail is a powerful tool in selling your son to scouts and colleges.
Like many others our 04 son did not recieve calls to around the 8th two coaches called to check when he would be throwing for summer team.
Do not set by the phone many will not make contact until school starts if you really have interest in a school call them and ask if you can come for a visit the earlier you apply the better chances for academic help.

stinger,
That kinda sums up the whole thread, in my opinion.

Ay,
Sounds like you did you homework and I do hope that your son is going to where he will fit and be happy, not where he got the best financial package!
Parents, be aware, we have discussed this many times, make sure it is where your son will be happy if baseball does not work out! It is something that must be taken into consideration when making that decision.
Don't get me wrong, every bit helps and counts these days, but first make sure it is the place he feels he will be happy.

You are very correct about the full package. My son turn down the two full scholarships(baseball) and is going to the school he wanted from the beginning. His coach was very upset that he turned down the full ride at the D11 school, but my son did not want to go there. His coach called me and told how hard it was to get a full scholarship just for baseball, but I told him my son would not be happy there and want to come home after a few weeks. The D1 package is almost a full ride,we have to pay less than $1000 to go to a major university. My son is working at a baseball camp this summer and in two months will be working his way to a starters job.I was not kidding about HSBB,if you look at all the information that this site has,Addresses of pro teams and colleges, showcase information and dates, scouts and a message board,My son would not be at a D1 school if it were not for this site.''You can not wait for your ship to come in,you must row out and find it,it's a big Ocean out there and sometimes your ship will get lost'' Thanks HSBB
I don't remember any more how this particular subtopic started, but my son turned down several baseball scholarship offers in favor of his dream school as a recruited walkon. We are fortunate not to need financial aid, but I believe that it is there for those who do need it.
I would hope that no parent would push their son to accept a scholarship offer because of financial need--not that anyone has suggested that they would do so, but just in case anyone is thinking that that is the only way a kid can afford college.
If anyone is thinking that way, definitely get in touch with schools early on and find out about non-athletic aid--either based upon academic merit or financial need-- if your son prefers a school that is not recruiting him for baseball.
