TR,

OK, take it easy or you're going to have another stroke. Smile Nobody wants that to happen.

One thing about Tom, that I really like... He is consistant! BTW, I mean that as a compliment.

Personally I look at this site a bit differently than some. I know it's a baseball site and a very good one. However, sometimes the non baseball topics provide the most entertainment. It's refreshing to hear about all the unique situations that actually go deeper than just baseball.

I don't consider myself an expert at anything. Not sure being an expert is all that important. What I like is the blend of people, all with lots of different experience in many important areas coming together at a baseball site. Lots of real good people, that's what I like the most about this place.

I might know the right way to field a groundball or what a runner is supposed to do in a certain situation. Maybe some don't know that. However, they all know certain things that I know nothing about. I've learned a lot around here.

This site is about baseball, parenting, recruiting, success, failure, coaching, instruction, umpiring, and much more. We have scouts, coaches, teachers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, writers, moms, dads, kids, members of the military, and just about everything you can think of that spend time here. The common thread is baseball, but the topics range from music, to food, to pet peeves. Makes you feel like you know more about people.

Every single person brings something to the table. Maybe some are here for the wrong reason, but those people seem to get weeded out. Others are cheering for kids they only know through this site. Pulling for those who are injured or sick. Trying to help others who might be confused about something. Sometimes even a good joke is told.

I never agreed with the old saying "Baseball is Life". However, this site is the closest I've seen when it comes to blending baseball with real (more important) life.

TR, with all due and well deserved respect, I submit to you... We all have lots of experience at something. We all have some common interest in baseball and the people who play the game. Many of us our parents of kids who played or are still playing. We don't all think the same way about things. But collectively as a big group, we have much more knowledge and experience than any one man or women. We are an EXPERT group.

Just like you, I read all kinds of things that I completely disagree with. Sometimes I reply, usually I don't. One thing for sure... When TR posts something, I always read it. I bet I'm not the only one! Sometimes I wonder... Is he mad or is he sitting there LHAO! I know I had to laugh about your wife taking away the computer. That was a good one!
My credentials: I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I believe by the time anyone gets to the bottom of a thread they can determine the consistancy of the advice. However, two people offering conflicting opinions doesn't make one of them wrong. Their view of the world will be based on their experiences.

That's a classic TR post. I suppose that Tom is feeling much better...good news! Now all I need to read is a nice little debate between him and TPM Big Grin...and I'll know he's back 100 Percent! Wink All kidding aside, it's nice to see TR on here posting regularly again, even if I am from California. Razz

As for credentials? I played HS baseball in the 80's, League MVP, All County, etc... on the mound. Pitched a couple years for a JC and did good enough to get some looks at schools out of state. I took a summer job and started making a little money (I'm still with the same company 25 years later) and decided not to pursue the game anymore outside of So Cal. Apparently it wasn't important enough at the time, although I wish that I could turn back the clock.

I coached my son from age 5 to 15 from Little League to very good state/nationally rated travel teams. The last few years I've simply been a dad. I've caught bullpens, thrown BP's, spent many hours in the garage soft tossing and putting the ball on a tee for him...and I've given him advice to the best of my ability. My son's now a freshman at a pretty good D-1 college, and hasn't been on the field through the first four games of the season and most likely won't see anytime this weekend? I'll be there for him as his dad, and remind him that it's a marathon not a sprint...and while I'm giving him this advice, I will most likely need to seek out advice myself to deal with the adversity.

On another note, I'm currently helping a friend coach a 9U Mustang Youth Pony team and having a blast. Ironically, I coached his older son nine years ago and his younger son (now 9) was at all the games in a stroller...wow, time flies! It's fun getting back to the basics with these little guys and keeping it fun...I Love Baseball, that's my credentials!!!

My definition of an "expert", heard years ago and a lot of fun:
"One who knows more and more about less and less, until they know everything about nothing."

I once took a tax law class taught by a guy who knew about 10 pages of the Internal Revenue Code and regulations backwards and forwards, inside and out, and knew of every case ever decided on the topic, and knew of every case pending anywhere about the topic. HE was an expert...but freely admitted that outside of those 10 pages, he wasn't much help.
I don't know Sh!t about baseball. Couldn't play it and am not the world's largest fan. Had a stepson play in the major leagues and have a son playing Division I. Have people whom I call friends, that I speak to on a regular basis who are scouts, cross checkers, scouting directors, major league players, AAA players, youth coaches, college coaches and agents. Have lived 48 years and have a general understanding of the human condition. Don't really care if you read a **** thing I post and if that isn't up to the standards needed to post here just let me know I'll move on.

I read somewhere and expert said experts are wrong 70% of the time. In reality if experts takes sides in a debate the experts are wrong 50% of the time.
I'm an expert in my personal experiences. I'm informed in what I've learned from others assuming they knew what they were talking about. I'm not an expert in the experience of someone I don't know. In areas I believe I have acquired a level of expertise there are still plenty of people with a higher level of expertise.

I'm a firm believer you can't learn when you're talking telling someone else what an expert you are. I also believe anyone who believes they have ultimate knowledge and stops learning is now standing still. They will be passed by those who keep learning because the world is always changing.

Guess I am a proud wannabe Expert. That is probably better than being a dontwannabe Expert.

Baseball is my only chance, due to that 10,000 hour rule that "justbaseball" brought up. Actually I have much more than that much time in baseball. Maybe that rule doesn't apply to some of us.

Come to think of it... I've been a parent for 44 years. Wonder how many hours that is? Still don't have a clue, let alone being an expert, when it comes to that.
