My son has been recovering from a shoulder dislocation (football) and has been given clearance to resume normal sports activities.  He has been playing catch, lifting weights, and working out, but he just started swinging a bat recently and this weekend was the first time in the batting cage (a 5 week layoff).  After about 30-40 swings he started experiencing pain in his knuckles. This is a first for him.  I figure it's due to his layoff from hitting (5 weeks) and that he should slowly get back into it.  He doesn't have a real firm grip on the bat, but I suggested that he try to lighten up some and do some T-work  in the yard before the snow sets in.  Any thoughts?

RJM, really?  If I ran to the doctor everytime my kid experienced pain I would be living in the clinic lobby from June through November (football) and bankrupt from the co-pays.  Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and in what situation they experieced it.  If I were to engage a doctor it would be an hand specialist who also specializes in sports medicine; that's not going to be cheap.
