There is quite a little buzz in Chicagoland because the games are ONLY on cable. Some of the electronic big box stores have lent large screen TVs to a number of churches and community centers which have opened their doors to show the games because, believe it or not, there are a bunch of people without cable. *gasp*

In the past, when a big game was on ESPN the local station, WGN, would be able to broadcast it. Not with TBS.

Tim's main problem is he feels he has to comment on everything and simply talks too much imho. I don't care for Joe Morgan either.

I have enjoyed Cal Ripken's commentary. He has a pleasant voice and doesn't try to come off as a know-it-all. It would be nice to hear him in the TV booth.

I like Ripken's commentary, too. Frank Thomas seems a little nervous, but hopefully will get better. Gotta admit I have a soft spot for TBS, being originally from the Atlanta area. Reminds me of home.

You're obviously all misinformed. Nobody on the planet knows more about the game than Tim Effing McCarver Roll Eyes. We are all so fortunate that he shares....and shares....and shares.....and shares.

And don't get me started on HallofFameJoe Morgan. Big Grin

That pair is ok in small does much less than 3.5 hour a day. As former catchers like to do, McCarver has an annoying habit of calling 2-1, 2-2 pitches from the booth, with uncanny inability.

I really feel sorry for all of you. I just moved Tuesday and had no cable at all until this morning.

Finally found the 5 inch black and white battery powered around 10pm and had to run to the store for C cells to watch the news to see what happened yesterday.

Tonight I will appreciate Morgan, McCarver or whoever I get after watching ND (no definition) TV.
We tend to think everyone has cable (soon we will think everyone has HD). Two years ago, Minneapolis had 52% penetration with cable/dish, meaning that 48% of households still had antennas. Minneapolis is not an anomoly either, just happens to be a big market example I pulled from remembering my files.

And I am in the minority, but don't care for Jon Miller more than Morgan. Miller makes things up to make him sound like a baseball insider...like nicknames for players...i.e. Tadahito Iguchi, he spent a whole game calling him Tada...a nickname that no one has ever used for him. I don't need a broadcaster telling me when I should be offended, or upset, or proud...

Ah, Dad04, but when Timmy is wrong about the pitch thrown (at least on those pitches he doesn't bs by simply misidentifying), don't forget his amazing ability to spin the selection back to I-knew-that-but-didn't-have-time-to-say-it.

The National Announcers seem to suffer from their employers' lack of foresight. Apparently, researchers are not employed (or eager interns, even) to give the on-air people some flippin' background on the players and teams involved. ESPN (Epstein-Steinbrenner Promotional Network), for example, MAY know those two clubs like a fan, but it's irritating to hear them call a Big Game as if they've heard of a team, but never actually seen them play.
cbg, radio never went away --- a whole lotta people in STL put the game on the TV with the sound off and listen to Shannon instead.

I prefer most radio announcers, they're not as lazy as the TV guys --- they'll tell you how the field is playing a hitter or what kind of lead a guy is taking; the TV announcers just blather as you have a "picture"....that usually comes down to close-ups of the pitcher, the hitter, random shots of dugouts and fans, then the shot over the pitcher's shoulder. We can have HD....but lost split screen????

I have to assume there is some recurring monthly subscription that goes with that website you got that picture from...
