By your logic, Plano West's State Championship doesn't really matter much since kids change in college. Let me know how you are received by their players when you explain it to them. I guess I should tell my Freshman son to stop trying since it doesn't really matter.

Please let me know when it does matter. I'll tell my son he can slack off until then.

No it really does not matter that a 9 year old USSSA Championship was won when you are a freshman in high school.
The Border Olympics in Laredo is always a top early-season tourney with more than 20 participating teams, including Laredo United (which played Plano West in the state semis this year), Corpus Christi Ray (a 2008 regional quarterfinalist), and San Antonio Reagan (a 2008 regional finalist). This year Corpus Christi Moody, a perennial powerhouse, will be at the tourney as well. Should be a good one!

hasn't he always been from the rockwall area? Didn't he just play for the banditos the last year?

please excuse me if I'm thinking of the wrong player - the one I'm thinking of has the initials of JH. If I'm not mistaken, he could play as a 14 yr old again this year.
funny how so many seem to discredit the accomplishments of youth players here. Almost all of the current top (H.S.) players were some of select youth baseballs best in the past. The players that are coming into high school and led their youth teams will continue to be leaders at the high school level. Many of the players that didn't have as much success at the younger level may catch up. The majority of the stand out players (from the youth select teams) will continue to be some of the best in our area even if they don't dominate the field the way did in Little league.

C'mon, most of the players you folks mention on this site spent a lot of time and their parents money playing youth baseball.

It may be true that the U-trip championship they won doesn't matter once the get to high school. It also goes to say that what they won in high school won't mean anything in college, and what they won in college may not mean anything aftey they graduate and have get a job.

Just goes to show you how baseball is irrelevant in the real world anyway. And just because your kid is top of the heap in H.S. now, won't mean squat in 10 years.

If any of you ask "then why do you, Texas Crude, bother to have your son participate?" ... I'll tell you straight up. I enjoy it... because my kid loves it. I never imagined how deep we'd fall into this. I thought, get him a glove, teach him to throw and catch... he'll be killing ants with a magnifying glass next week... skinning at cat fish the week after that... building a tree house the following weekend...

I think it is the list of Campisi's nightly specials. Smile I love that place!

I think we are all ready to acknowledge that youth and summer accomplishments are great. They provide a basis for experiencing success and provide motivation. They indicate goals satisfied and allow larger dreams. And, YES, they allow families to develop wonderful, lasting memories. I don't care if it's USSSA or Triple Crown or Plano Little League, it's fun to win.....and even if championships remain elusive, it's about competition and team work and striving for goals and getting better.

I've shared my comments on this stuff as it relates to HS baseball and the upcoming season. But I appreciate both points of view.

One of my favorite kids has a Texas 5A State Championship ring. He will cherish it forever....but moreso the memories of the season and the special feelings of accomplishment. No, he won't wear the ring in college....and his Big 12 teammates won't care to see it. But -- it's still pretty darn cool.

Summer success....accolades.....rankings, etc. are special. But they don't translate into HS baseball wins. So, they remain a point of reference as the season approaches -- and that's good. My son was the best player on his youth teams for a few years....then be became one of the best....then he became a HS freshman on a team with juniors and seniors and he was still a special player -- but not the best....then his summer team became a group of kids with experiences like his.....most just as good....some better....a few are now professionals. He continues to have a passion for baseball. That's what I like about all of this.....stuff.

I'm rambling.

"Let's get it started!!"

It seemed more magical and important in Latin. Thanks for ruining that tingly, mysterious reverent feeling I was getting off of this thing, Nat. Now I just feel like I'm in a "National Treasure 4" trailer...
