Hi, I'm a high school sophomore (c/o 2011) and I was wondering if it is too early to start sending letters to college coaches, and if it isn't please tell me what to include in my letters! Thanks
Click on the recruiting timeline on this website. Print it and put it up on your bulletin board or fridge. Take the advice given there. It has helped almost everyone who posts here.
My own son had not played a single varsity game as of this date in his sophomore year.
Recruiting is happening earlier and earlier. If a player has a solid record of performing at the levels where he has played thus far, and if he has (especially in summer play) stood out, it would not be unusual for teams to start a "follow" file on the player.
I'm not saying he should expect an offer at this stage, but there is no reason not to open a dialogue.
Don't be surprised if what you get in response is an invitation to a camp (your expense). But, such camps can be as good a way as any to get a more up close look at the program, the coaches, the facilities, the school, etc., and also to let them see you. Just make sure you're ready to be seen when you get there. First impressions can be good, or bad, depending on you.
i have to agree with TRhit....my friend who is a juco coach has mentioned the volume of mail that comes from players he can't recruit for a year or two. a lot can change in that time.....follow the timeline on the main page! we've followed it to the "T" and had much success.
fyi - some coaches have told us that the number one thing that gets their attention is a meaningful call or email from a high school or summer coach that has credibility.
When you block a person, they can no longer invite you to a private message or post to your profile wall. Replies and comments they make will be collapsed/hidden by default. Finally, you'll never receive email notifications about content they create or likes they designate for your content.
Note: if you proceed, you will no longer be following .
