I believe that you need to establish a battle between the rear hip and the rear leg, with the rear leg winning the battle. You need to c o c k the hips and get your butt into it, as Williams said.

Go find The Science of Hitting by Ted Williams. Best book ever written on hitting.

Thanks, John

You don't want to load on the back hip and then unload. I would call that sway, as would many others. Linear sway, to be exact. The weight doesn't move back from a load "on" to the back hip. You load "around" the back hip. It's a twist, or a coil. Not a sway. You load "around" the back hip, and then you pick up the foot and load some more. That moves you forward. Not the stride foot reaching.

The rear leg has to control the stride.

As for the battle between the hips and rear leg, here's Hamilton:

You see how the rear leg appears to move first? Of course, there's a rather complex muscle action causing that, but that's not really important.

Well I start my swing with a front leg lift and a turn of my front hip towards the catcher. This move transfers my weight to the inside of my rear leg.
Thanks John

do that while moving forward..dont just coil and uncoil..move forward while coiling

I disagree. You can coil in your stance. And then when you pick up the foot to go out, coil some more. That's what I see Ted doing, and that leads to the "metronomic" hip action he desires.

Just got back from BP and i tend to agree with Low Finish, a coil in the stance and a firther coil at leg lift provides more torque. But i have to be careful to keep my weight from the increased coil from leaking behind my rear leg. Will provide video soon.
Thanks, John

Just set up with the weight on the inside of your back foot. Then you don't need to worry.
