As an addendum to our thread on Illinois very own college players, lets have a thread to highlight their achievements as they make them.

I ran across this one on the Patriot League Website....

Trey Frahler, Northfield, IL (New Trier) Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

Pitcher of the Week

Trey Frahler, Bucknell So., P, Northfield, Ill.

Frahler had a solid effort against a good Virginia Tech team, going seven innings with just one earned run allowed in a 2-1 loss for the Bison. He gave up six hits and four walks while matching a career high with six strikeouts. The Hokies hit just .231 off of Frahler in the contest. Virginia Tech scored 10 runs in the other two games of the series.

Atta boy Trey!

Congrats to Eastern Illinois' and Shepard HS's Mike Recchia. Mike got the W vs. #15 Oklahoma on Sunday, pitching 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4K for the 8-6 victory.

For the season, Recchia is 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA and a .157 BA against.

WTG Mike! Nice win, nice start!
RHP Tony Zych is off to a nice start with Louisville on the bump. He is 1-0 with 9 SO and a 1.29 era in 4 appearances. Batters are only hitting .167 against him. Nice job T!
DG South's Phil Wunderlich is leading Louisville in hitting with a .393 BA. He's started all but one of Louisville's games. Nice job Phil.
Congradulations to Lincoln-Way East's Brian Russell who is perfect on the bump for Davidson in his 1st 3 appearances. 3 Ks, no walks and no hits. Way to go Brian!
Congratulations to the Robert Morris Eagles. For the first time in school history, they have cracked into the NAIA top 25. Packed with local players. Coach Mike Kashirsky has really turned things around and has some great recruits coming in for 2010 as well. Coach Kashirsky took over the Windy City Thundebolts in mid-season last year. They were a .500 team at the time and under Kashirsky, he led them to the Frontier League Championship. Very talented young coach.
Justin Behm from Downers Grove North hit two homeruns and had five RBI's for Northern Illinois on Sunday.
Congradulations to Michigan 3B and 2008 Lincoln-Way East grad, John Lorenz; who had a great weekend at the plate, hit his 2nd dinger of the year and has his average at .310.

I had the extreme pleasure of having Adam work out at my facility this past winter. I can only say that he is one of the most humble and unassuming profesionals you could ever meet. What a terrific guy who approaches the game the way it should be approached...a TRUE role model.
Congrats to 08 St Rita grad Tony Zych on getting his first save the other day for University of Louisville.

Did a couple 97 mphs !!!!

Congrats to David Reynolds,06 Sanburg grad and Northern Illinois 1st baseman who has hit safe in his last 19 games..

Benet's Brian Roberts pitched 8 innings of 2-run ball in the 1st game of Illinois' double header today against Michigan State. Sandburg's Nick Chmielewski pitched the 9th and got the win.

In the 2nd game of the double header, Sycamore's Will Strack pitched a complete game shut-out.

Both games were 9 inning per.

Both Roberts and Strack are 2-0 on the season, Chmielewski is 2-1.

Today's Recap

Matt Davis at Eastern Kentucky (Prospect High School) is off to a nice start this season ba 456, slugging 781 7hr 10 doubles, 3 triples 51 runs scored and 29 rbi. I enjoyed watching this guy in high school, not the biggest kid around but he could swing it and also play anywhere on the field.

WOW!

Talk about a groove! He's a career 300 hitter who is just lighting it up his senior year.

The EKU Colonels as a team are putting up some insane numbers. They have 4 players hitting over 400, and only two hitting under 300. Their team BA is 374. Opponents are hitting 311 against them.

Their team ERA is 5.37 while their opponents is 9.45.

Now for the shocking stat...they are only 18-9. You'd think with such a huge disparity between opponent numbers you'd see the W-L ratio a little more EKU favored.

Still...WOW!

cplz, I don't follow ek that close to know what he has hit in his years there but I will say when I watched him during his high school years I would have liked to have 9 of him on a team, he played hard! I think that is a new coaching staff at ek.
Chip, what a great article and great perfomance. Seems like he's all the way back and all that hard work is paying off. Congratulations.

You should e-mail the article to the man in Birmingham.
How about Matt Otteman the kid from Lockport now playing at UTA. He's doing great in Texas. Coming off a 26 game hitting streak, batting .470 and also has a 2.63 era as a part time pitcher.
Congradulations to 2008 St. Rita Grad and Louisville RHP Tony Zych who has been invited to USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team Trials. Tony is only one of 5 Freshman invited. Tony has stepped in to the closer role for Louisville and has a 1.2 ERA. I heard that he has been gunned as high as 97mph this spring.

Eek
Tuzi

You heard right. Spoke with coach Lomonis by phone and he said he is painting corners at 95 and getting it up to 97.. Eek
Adam Rosales (Maine South) has just been called back up to the Reds big league club, as a friend of mine has just informed me.
Used this beautiful day to watch the Illini battle at Northwestern. There are so many boys on both teams that my son either played with or against that made it so much fun. The Illini won 15-12 with Pete Cappetta (Montini) having a great day; 4-6 with a homer and 2 doubles, 4 rbi. Northwestern's Chris Lasmet (New Trier) hit a 3 run bomb that may have landed in the lake.
Nick Martini (Prairie Ridge HS) hit 2 home runs the other night against BYU. He is hitting 341 batting in the 3 hole for kansas State and having a nice freshman year.

The latest Rivals poll has KSU hosting a regional...they are a very, very strong team this year. Congrats to Nick...I still remember an at bat he had vs. Junior, it went 13 pitches before Nick drew the walk. A very tough hitter.
Jimmy did go to Kansas State but there was a parting of the ways shortly after the fall season. Risi intends to go to a JC next year.

Congradulations to former St. Rita and IL Spark RHP/IF Tony Zych. Tony is a FR at Louisville. He started and got the Win in Louisville's Big East Tournament Championship game today. He also made the All Tournament Team.
Just a note Nick Martini (prairie ridge) has gone 6-10 in his first 2 regional games for K-State as they are 2-0 in the regional beating xavier and also Rice last night.
They split in the regular season and won both playoff games in the bottom of the 9th. They obviously were the better team, but not dominant.
I had parkland winning on the april 11th 10-5 and april 21 8-7 and losing to heartland on the 11th of april 6-5. That would be Parkland winning 2 of 3 regular season. Then Parkland won on the 17 and 18th 4-3 and 7-4.

I really don't know who the "better" team is I was just saying who won the games and saying congrats to Parkland and it's players as winning their world series is a nice accomplishment.

I know players on both teams and both programs and coaches do a great job.
Congrats to CPLZ's son Kirk, for a great outing today as Army defeated BC to earn the right to play Texas for the regional championship.

How about Austin Wood throwing 169 pitches in 13+ innings one day after throwing another 30 as Texas defeated BC 3-2 in 25 innings? Sorry, just no justification for Augie to abuse a great pitcher and risk his future.

By throwing a kid 169 pitches, one would think the only future the coach thinks of is his own.
Matt Davis Eastern Kentucky (Prospect) 3rd team All American hit 418 7 homers 20 doubles and 43 rbi scored 71 runs and stole 25 of 28 bases. All after moving from middle of order to lead-off. Congrats

Congradulations again to former St. Rita and IL Spark RHP Tony Zych. Yesterday Tony pitched and got the win for Louisville in the Regional championship game against Vanderbilt. Good luck in the Super Regionals against Cal State Fullerton.
Zach Borenstein also named to that team as a freshman. He is at Eastern Illinois and went to Buffalo Grove High School

A few additional players for the local boys.  Robbie Mcdonnell (Barrington) is 7-1 for Illinois which is ranked in the top few teams in the country. Sean Stutzman (Fremd)  is 6-1 for Dallas Baptist as they head into the tournament. Kevin Kacmanski is leading the country in batting average and a variety of offensive categories. Kevin is fro Prairie Ridge and plays for Evansville. Ryan Lidge (Barrington) catching every game and batting 298 or so for Notre Dame.

Elliot Soto (Dundee Crown) double a cubs been hitting around 300 and stellar job at ss. Nick Martini (Prairie Ridge) double a cardinals leading the team at 324 batting avg. Jake Smolinski (Rockford Boylan) started the season with the Texas Rangers but got moved to triple a a few games ago and is hitting mid 500 with 3 home runs in the first 6 games. Working his way back as I am sure he will do. I know I missed many but throw in any names to rekindle this thread!

Also for the Illini, a couple of south-west suburban guys are leading the pitching staff.  Tyler Jay (Lemont) is the closer and having an outstanding year.  Named Big 10 pitcher of the year.  Kevin Duchane (JCA), a left-handed pitcher was named 1st team Big 10.  Good luck to the Illini in the tourney.
