Hello, there is a local collegiate summer league about an hour or so away, so I was thinking there is a possibility to be able to stay with my family during the summer instead of a host family. I was wondering if there is a requirement on where a host family can be at in location to the home field?

Im sure most Summer leagues would have no problem with a player staying at home during the summer season. It would allow more room for those players from out of state more opportunity to come play.

But I must add one thing. Unless you're away from home during the school/ball season already and just want to stay close to home, IMO you're missing out on enjoying what the summer season is all about. Being away and bonding with players after games, on road trips, etc.

There are more on here who will chime in on this experience. But this is my take on the fun of summer ball!

Good luck!

We (jointly) decided that for his freshmen season (rising Soph) my son would stay with us and play on a team whose home field is about ½ hour drive from our house. He is able to spend a little time with us, enjoy the California summer (we live on the coast), see some of his friends, and is able to get to his home gym down the street. He commutes with one other player in the area who is doing the same thing so they are sharing in commute costs. Overall it has worked out pretty well but next year he will likely find another team for a new experience.

A one hour drive might be a bit much however, when you add up how many times you have to go back and forth it might be worth staying with a local host family, and getting over to see your family when you can. (and vise versa)

I just posted this on another topic, but we live little over hour from field were my son plays in the NECBL, the coach after the first few weeks set up a host family in town so he wouldn't have to travel as much back and fourth to home.

Away games he would get home until 2 or 3 am.

Now we only see him on days off and home games we can make it to.
