We throw 10-12 times at 100 feet and another 10-12 times at 130 feet two or three times a week. Any one have any other drills for the purpose of building arm strength. He is a shortstop looking for velocity deep in the hole.
How about 10 times at 100 feet, 10 times at 120 feet, 10 times at 140 feet, 10 times at 160 feet, 10 times at 180 feet, 10 times at 200 feet, and If you can do it a bit further...)
Then go back down.... (maybe reduce the repetitions)
25 throws are NOT enough.. to gain extra strength...
Although don't go and do that tomorrow... Build it up slowly... But to build up the arm muscle you have to first TEAR it DOWN (slowly) and allow the body to rebuild it stronger.
Also, make sure you are doing other exercises to develop the muscles.. Jobe's exercises are great... Surgical tubing exercises are great.... Develop a program... of STRESS and recovery....
First of all, how old is he? that will make a difference with regard to distances...
I assume you are talking about a high schooler, in which case SDBB is completely right, 25 throws is not enough. Gradually increase and try to get up around 200+ feet. And make sure he is throwing on a line, loolipops do nothing (although because he's a shortstop he probably is throwing on a line anyways.)
