Don't know much about the bb program. A boy from my son's summer team ('07) just started at Carlton College and, apparently, will be playing ball there. His dad told me they visited all three schools mentioned. The dad said he THOUGHT his son liked St. Olaf best (thought they had the nicest facilities, etc.), but his son ultimately chose Carleton. If your son likes a larger town setting, maybe Macalester would be best...the other two are further outside of St. Paul, in Northfield, I think.

However, academically, you can't go wrong w/ ANY of the three...ALL are "top drawer," IMO.
Macalester coach is a great guy..class act. He attended the Headfirst showcase in Richmond, VA in early August. Great motivator and speaker. DIII baseball liberal arts college with Ivy League admission standards. Consequently, only one Soph on the roster this year and 18 new freshman. They got "hammered" in recruiting last year. Some baseball kids couldn't get in and others just went elsewhere...usually Ivy admits. My son was interested in the school and his test scores were within their mid 50 range, but his GPA was less than stellar, and this the coach said to us would be a problem with admissions, unless my son were a super prospect which he is not, or he showed significant improvement in the first half of his senior year.
Sons high school teammate from 2005-06, and his teammate from this summer, is a sophomore pitcher at Macalester. Son was also recruited by Macalester. Chose to go east to New York instead.

The pitcher mentioned was all-conference for Macalester this past season, James Murray. Great kid, great family.

Team gets to play a few games in the Metro Dome. But, It's still cold in Minnesota.
