I have got to say that I was pretty disappointed when I read the article and he is a home grown manager that has spent his entire career in American baseball. I was hoping that he was an import from Japan.

Does anybody think that a Japanese manager would have any chance of running a team like they do in Japan? It's a whole 'nother game over there.

I don't think any manager would ever be given enough authority to make these changes. I would say that GMs and other front office employees have too much influence over things like pitching workloads and conditioning for a manager alone to have this type of effect. This would even include huge names like Lou Piniella and Joe Torre (although Dusty Baker has apparently been given the authority to burn up a few arms). Right or wrong, I think this would be even more true of a manager that has no experience in American professional baseball.
