I am so happy for Matt. I have always been impressed by his character - all those years with little or no run support skewing his won/loss record and he never said a word. His post game comments last night were true to form - recognizing Buster and his defense first and foremost. Heck, he even acknowledged the home plate umpire. I also liked how he stated he always knows how many hits he has given up, so yeah, he was thinking about it. Like I say, great guy: honest, humble, a great teammate and great pitcher!
yea i was happy for matt cain and buster as well. as a fellow lee countian i am not sure what buster is gonna do next. rookie of the year, world series champ, leading in all-star balloting and catching a perfect game. maybe he should just hang up the spikes and move back to lee co and take over the high school baseball program (we have never won a state championship. about the only thing he hasnt accomplished) in all seriousness, i am so proud of buster. i know this OP was about matt cain and i dont mean to hijack it, but i have known buster and his family for 12 years and they are all great people. he definately is as down to earth as he seems. who says great things dont happen to good people?
younggun,
I have no problems at all with your bringing Buster to the discussion.
Matt Cain's first words were, to the effect, that Buster should get a ton of credit for the way he caught and called the perfect game. Cain didn't shake him off once and said the pitch selection and location were called masterfully by Buster. Bochy echoed everything..
Having watched him since 2010, there is little doubt Buster Posey makes every player on his team better. He makes his team considerably better.
He has such a wonderful quiet demeanor which seems to disguise an amazing fire and desire to compete and excel.
In the Bay Area we were so lucky to have Joe Montana for so many years. I never thought I would see another athlete compete at such a high level while always appearing to be in control while never, ever losing his focus, concentration and emotions.
I am now seeing the 2nd.
Buster Posey is a rare talent and wonderful baseball player.
