Edit.....Sorry....no idea how this got in the "Ask the umpire forum"....

I know, I know....I'm beating a dead horse talking about how comical some Maxpreps stats are.  I've seen the posts about it 100 times....but until today, never really looked at them.  It's raining and a slow day here at work so.....

A team that is 12-13 has a guy batting .532 and 3 others over .420  Not likely

A Catcher has 101 plate appearances...but only 66 AB and is batting .515

A team that's 12-6 has 3 guys batting .600 or over....

I'm sure there's more...and those are just from here in Ohio....again, don't put much stock in stuff like that...but it is a little funny to look at some of those things....

And your question for the umpires is ..... ?

Lol....no idea how it got in this forum.....sorry

I don't have any connection to any of the teams I mentioned....so I'm in no position to tell them what to do.  Just think it's comical that someone would do that....as obviously those numbers aren't likely correct.  My son's team doesn't use it...but does keep very accurate stats.  We're 18-5 and have one kid hitting .400...lol

I'm not a fan of maxpreps but it's like anything else.  It's only as good as the people using it.  Back in the olden days of pre-technology times people still fudged numbers.  People who know (like yourself) realize these are comical things but sadly there are those who believe them.  But once again those people don't carry any weight either.

Does you son’s team use any stat service?

Our team is 21-4 and I like to think I keep accurate stats too. We’ve got 1 player batting .400 going into the playoffs. But since he’s only at .403 and likely gonna be facing nothing but very good pitchers for whatever games we have left, I doubt he’ll end up over .400 for the season. In 12 seasons of scoring HS ball, I’ve only scored for 2 regular starters who batted over .400 for an entire season, and never even one who did it for his HS career.

We don't....the kid hitting over .400 is actually my son.  I feel pretty safe saying his stats are correct...as my numbers have matched our stats guy's numbers the entire year...every time they've posted stats. He's our leadoff hitter and has struck out 2 times in 23 games...which definitely has helped the average. He's got some colleges talking to him....so we can't make up stats...wouldn't be worth it if a coach asks and ends up finding out we're fudging numbers.   I know what it's taken for him to stay at that number....which is why when I look at Maxpreps, I just have a hard time believing that any team has 4 guys hitting better than that...especially on a team with a record of 12-13....lol.
