Coming in early today, NPR had two news items:

1. My still and forever all time favorite player, Willie Mays, turns 80. Happy Birthday to Say Hey!

2. I'm not making this up: It seems we have upset some of our Indian-Americans by allowing our military to use "Geronimo" as the code name for Osama Bin Gone. They actually want President Obama to apologize. Really. Maybe before our next covert operation, we'll just hold Congressional hearings on the appropriate name for the target, maybe a referendum or two, with pre-voting polls, and then sneak in after the target... Good grief...

There you have it, one of our country's finest, and then another stupid PC American moment.

Ya gotta love this place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS kids we often yelled, "Geronimo" just before or during some imagined attack on the enemy during our outside war games. After all the indignities, wanton killing of and taking of the American Indian's land; I guess it wouldn't hurt every once in awhile to apologize for insulting their ancestors. Someone might have been insulted if the code name was "Martin Luther." They should have just stuck with the old standby, "The duck is on the pond."

And Willie was always among the nine Topps cards I carried around in the back pocket of my jeans. Along with Hank Aaron and The Great Roberto Clemente.
I never can figure out why people get upset when the name is used in a complimentary fashion, as Geronimo was a very crafty, stealthy, and for a long time, successful fighter. I would be glad if they would use my ancestry as a code name or ball team name: THE CZECHOSLOVAKIANS. Oops, maybe that might not work so well, but at least I offered! Smile

Hey Three Bagger...your offer is good! Consider these guys and these events...
    Alexander Dubček
    Václav Havel
    Prague Spring
    Czechoslovak Hockey Riots
    Velvet Revolution

All very respectable and very motivating. And certainly worthy of having their efforts and accomplishments bestowed on a tough, freedom loving team!

Think about it..
    The Daunting Dubčeks!

    or

    The Havel Havoc!
