Opening day is tomorrow and I have to admit I am excited, it is been a few years since I roamed the sidelines. My team is starting to take shape, they are quiet an interesting group of young ladies...allow me to introduce to them

Bria - The team diva..."Coach, I can't run anymore, I am going to sweat and ruin my hair"

Taylor - She is the hardest worker on the team, she is going to be about 6'3", right now she is all arms and legs. She just got her black belt in Tae Kwon Do

Oasis - The actress..she just landed a Kellog's commerical, she is the youngest on the team and one of the better ball handlers.

Maya - Tough girl, she is the one diving on the floor for loose balls and throwing elbows.

Nikki- Speedy - She is the best all around athlete on the team and she's a gymnast.

Tiara - The shy one -- she is starting to come out of her shell

Moranda - Every team has one...she is the team "blonde"...Coach, I am really having a problem figuring out what the difference between offense and defense is...

Faith - the Prodigy(just turned 9) she is so good it is scary...imagine Allen Iverson with pigtails and dimples. She has a legit 3-pt shot...proper form and ball rotation...I am actually considering giving her the green light to pull the trigger.

Sasha - the leader..she is me when I was 9, in fact most people thinks she is my daughter. She has got a basketball mind and thinks 2 passes ahead...she is my floor general.

Thank you for sharing that line-up.
Years and years of basketball make you appreciate all the stereotypes you tell us about. Who has the "hands"? Who is your generous-to-a-fault player? What ever happened to the man who insisted on being your assistant? Do you have his daughter?

You are making a diference in the lives of these young girls. GO Panthers!

Well...the 1st game is the books...we did alright..still a lot of work to do...but 40-2 isn't a bad way to start. We can't press or play zone and defense doesn't start until half court...I actually had to stop them from fast- breaking ,make them pull the ball out and run an offensive play. But it is hard to pull them back cause they love to get out and go. I made sure there was no "showboating" or trash-talking and to remember that the other team has feelings too. The opposing parents actually come over to compliment us after the game.

Val...most of girls have good hands..I spent a lot of time working on fundamental hands drills. They hated working with the medicine ball but it really paid off. The dad-coach has his own team in the county rec league but we are in different divsions...lucky for him. He pulled his older daughter off our 7th grade team, she was making so much progress with the other coaches...oh well.

Panthers...beautiful to look at, dangerous to play with!

Send them to me, I have 2 empty bedrooms. You want to find a coach that stresses fundamentals at this age. The local rec center or YMCA is a good place to start. Check with a high school coach or local junior college many of them have contacts and former players that coach in the community. Good luck!

HotMama---

Your girls sound GREAT! Congrats to the Panthers and their "hot" coach!

Basketball was not my forte. I am all of 5 ft. tall (but that wasn't the issue), and when I played back in the Dark Ages, "girls'" basketball was a joke. Interscholastic basketball did not exist for us---only intramurals. And it was apparently assumed back then by the "powers" that be that we frail and fragile females just couldn't handle full court play, so our positions were assigned as either forwards or guards. Forwards scored and guards defended---and we had to STAY on our half of the court---could not cross the center line. I HATED IT!! It was for weenies! Mad

H-mom and ALL of the Ladies---

I've got LOTS of room for a PJ party! (And did I mention WINE??). You can head for PA for a break anytime---just make sure I'm home. We come and go often... Big Grin

Is this heaven?...
CatchMom, HMom, RHP05, and all the other ladies on the west coast --- I'm thinking ROAD TRIP! Of course, after seeing HotMama's slide show from Tahoe, they just might want to come out here instead. Supposed to be in the 60's here by the weekend....

Congrats on your basketball team Hot, and keep the updates coming - I'm enjoying hearing about them.

Pay attention to the feedback that takes you where you want to go!
I was just not patient enough.....
Got it when I tried again.
They are so cute I just want to grab them up and squeeze them.

Tell them if they listen to everything HotMama tells them good things will come their way.
My daughter never had a "HotMama"...She had a "Hot-Handed Papa!" Before Friday's game she was recognized for her nomination to the McDonald's All American team...one in 1,000 girls in the country....
and it was anounced that she is on the verge of breaking the school's assist record and is on the doorstep of 1,000 career points.
Of course, as is typical of kids these days, the young men in attendance started the cheer "Free Fries! Free Fries!" and the game went on...
