One of my buddy's brother got a questionnaire from the Pittsburgh Pirates a month or so ago. And I was just wondering, what are these for? Does it mean that you are definatly going to be drafted or does it just mean that they "have your number" so to speak? I was just curious because I seemed to be more excited than he did and I figured that I was blowing it out of porportion. Thanks

C41 - If they didn't have interest in him, they wouldn't send the Q. It doesn't mean he'll be drafted - it merely means he is on somebody's radar scope and they want some more info on him re: grades, athletic ability, college inetentions, signability if they do draft him, etc.

I think it would be something any ball player would be excited about.

There are true experts on this site that can give you the straight scoop, but I think I've hit the basics. My buddy's son got one last week from Seattle - he got the same impressino that I just relayed.
It means you're on their radar and they are collecting information as they should. Likely, they'll be to a game or two (or more if you're a top prospect) in the Spring.

A private workout is an indication of even more interest in most cases. Congratulations...you should feel excited.

Its a long road between now and then. Your senior season HS performance (not batting average or W/L record per se, but display of tools and talent) will be the most important measuring stick in the remaining months. Work hard and be honest with them about things like signability.

Good luck!
A boy that I worked with got a ton if questionnaires and five teams visited during the season. He said that he would sign no matter where in the draft he went. Was not interested in college even though he had committed to one. Had a great senior season. Wasn't drafted. Having fun in college but he was very confused. It just goes to show that until your name is called, nothing is a guarantee.
