Beenthere asked about a MLB questionairre and in another thread someone else mentioned contacting the MLB guy in their area.

So, what I'm wondering is does MLB do their own questionairres and scouting independent of the organizations?
We've gotten the questionairres which come from individual teams, but is there also a LEAGUE questionairre and if so, how are the two used differently?
Thanks in advance!!

The Major League Scouting Bureau scouts are scouts employed by MLB to scout an area. Their services are available to all of the MLB teams. They tend to concentrate on your medical history and give a scouting report as well. They also make sure to get your contact numbers, etc. If a scout is going to be in your area, he can look up your information and find out who else is in the area.

Hope that helps

Correct me if I am wrong but the MLBSB scouts also enter the information they receive into a data base that all the teams can access. Our son was contacted two times ... once while still playing summer ball (by the scout who covers the Cape) and then about a month ago by a So Cal scout. The second scout supplied a much bigger packet for our son to complete whereas the other scout this summer just obtained the basic contact information.

If anyone here has ever seen the Bureau list they will tell you its amazing how many top draft picks are not listed or graded. The ML teams turn in names to get a draft number. If they depended on the small group of bureau scouts to first find all the players they would miss more than half the players. Each club has more scouts than the bureau does. Usually better scouts too. The best bureau scouts end up getting hired by one of the ML teams. The bureau does work for the teams so if a team tells them to go out and film a certain player they do it. If you see a player getting video taped hes considered a top draft pick by ML teams. There are some good bureau scouts and some bad ones. No ML team relies on their evaluations but they do give out accurate personel information. You sometimes see on the bureau list a player with a 50 or better OFP who is a 30 truthfully or you see a 40 that is a 55. Every club knows it and thats why they don't put much value in the bureau grades.
