Clemson ss Stan Widmann underwent 12 hours of surgery to repair degenerated cervical vertebrae at the Mayo Clinic in St Paul, MN this week.
The surgery was done after the removal of a benign tumor, which was found a few weeks ago.
He will take a redshirt year, and if cleared to play again, will resume playing for the Tigers next season.
Stan, from Hurst, Texas, graduated from LD Bell High School in 2004.
