Halfmoon,

This is slightly before my time and thus, the names are not too familiar (born in 1960). That is why I mentioned classic Star Trek - which is my earliest recollection of Science Fiction.

Refreshingly, it seems tensions are starting to cool down now with everyone appearing a bit more introspective. I love this site. Great for the mental health - I wished I would have found it years ago. I was also hoping Fungo would post something on Deer hunting or bass fishing.
Tom,

Don't go away, just do as I do. I type a little babble every so often, to let ya'll know I'm still alive.

As far as this messageboard, it went down hill, when we had to be politically correct, and allow morons with an agenda, to remain as posters.

For those of you that don't know Tom (OPP), he is a good family man. He once drove two hours to watch my son pitch, in a high school game......for no other reason than to be a nice guy. I've since tried to pattern my life after him...but I hate the taste of 'dillas.

Keep me updated on Zach's doin's. You've got my email addy.

Chris (Gloveman), call me next week. I'll fill you in on the latest with the youngster.

Be good.......it beats the alternative.

Great post by RHP....My son is still a junior in high school. We have a way to go in the process I hope, and I would prefer not to stumble blindly in the dark. Without those who have been there before us, that's what we would have to do. I hope OPP and BigHit reconsider, as I enjoy their posts, and I think the place is better with them here. I don't agree with everyone, some posts drive me nuts, but you ignore and move on. Oh won't you stay...just a little bit longer...
OPP and BigHit,

I love you! Big Grin Oh boy, my friends on the forum now think I'm crazy, but it's almost Valentine's Day!

What I'm really trying to say is that although I don't really belong on the *HS* bbweb any longer either, since my son is now a college freshman pitcher, I have learned a lot from both of you and it is really a treasure to continue to read your posts here. You are both two of my favorite posters to learn from on this site, to try to help my son toward his dream, along with FutureBackMom, TigerPawMom, URKillingMeBlue, and a bunch of other people here who are just great. Please don't let the riff-raff dim your enthusiasm for the site. We need you!

Remember why you are here . . . Baseball season is beginning! I'm so excited, I am going to have the pleasure of seeing my son's college team play their first games of the season in Florida in early March. This is how baseball makes me feel:

As someone who paid for my own college and law school education many years ago, it is sad to see that some of you, who have been giving me the best free education possible, are considering giving up sometime that you enjoy and find so gratifying. Just knowing how many families you have helped over the years should prevent you from concerning yourslves with those whose insecurities cause them to behave badly. Life is too short! Please continue to educate us.
MN Mom,
Regardless that your son has moved on, you add insight to this site. I also know, because you have told me, that you have learned quite a bit from being here, and I am sure that you can pass it on to others.
I don't remember seeing anything that this place was just for HS parents and players.
OPP and BigHit, we had our first official season baseball booster meeting last week. During a break I started talking to some parents about hsbaseballweb. They were hanging onto every word, taking down the website address, and very appreciative....I couldn't say enough good things to them about this site....and they were anxious to get here and learn too....I did add that there were some posters who were full of themselves, and/or always had to try and get the last word in about the wonderfulness of their way of dealing with baseball.....told them after a while it was easy to seperate the junk from the good stuff.

You guys contribute the good stuff.....and there is a need for you to keep on educating us....you should have been at the meeting! It all comes down to the kids anyway....doesn't it? My kid is going on to play college ball....so I'm not asking for us...we are a done deal....but you gotta know there are a lot of other young men who want to go on too, and need help. We got the most help from this site...honestly....SO STAY...and thank you.....

I'm guessing that Bob's purpose for creating this site was not to provide controversial entertainment for a few. Frown If a poster is bored, I'd like to suggest that they go elsewhere to post something that's sole purpose is to stir things up for their own entertainment. There are millions of message boards and chat rooms in cyberspace that can accommodate that purpose. But then, its just my opinion. Smile

You are not necessarily a "done deal". Bob has done a wonderful thing with this site, and has added forums and features that provide information for everybody that can benefit their sons as they pursue their dreams. Some finish in high school, some in college, and some are blessed to have the opportunity to play at the next level. We can all learn from others who have been along the same roads our sons wish to travel.

OPP and BigHit, both of whom I have communicated with through private messages, offer valuable information and insight into the "game of the game". Their sons, both of whom were drafted out of high school, have been there and done that, and they have the T-shirts to prove it. Other websters have sons who were drafted at various levels in college ... from JUCO to 4 year schools. We can all benefit from all of these people if we are willing to put our own baggage aside and read and absorb the information with open minds. Posters like OPP and BigHit have no personal agenda on this site ... their experiences would most likely be considered "done deals", but we can continue to learn from them. I know I do on a regular basis.

Hopefully they will not leave us, but if they choose to do so, I can understand why. So if they do, I just want to thank them both for all the information and education they have provided me, and I hope that they will still be available to take my "personal calls" ...

FutureBackMom, I'm not sure of what you are trying to tell me..... I think you are preaching to the choir...and that maybe you should re-read my post.

Does your son play at The Hanger? We lived in Lancaster for a few years and were at the first game ever played there....lots of fun and good baseball. Hope he has a great season...
In addition to what FBM says about not being a done deal- Some of us come in as newbies- dreadfully wet behind the ears! Wink

We listen, we learn, we research and study, we learn who we respect enough to ask for and take advise from, we make some grand friends along the way, and then hopefully we GIVE BACK! Smile

I'm not fool enough to think I can ever give back when it comes to the "mechanics of a good swing, or pitch etc". My mind clouds over when I see rotational or linear Roll Eyes WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? pull_hair

But I can give back in other ways, and contribute in many ways.

Tenndad, with his great sense of humor- in fact the whole Tenn site has a lot of quick wits!

OPP is always generous- sorry OPP but I always think of Armidillos when I see your name!! (or is it a possum??)

Big- my friend who has shared so much. You bring a sensibility with your posts. I like to see your take on things and respect your outlook.
When my son had a less than stellar outing a while back, you helped to put it into perspective- and you have rejoiced in his success. As a MOM I thank you for talking to him before showcases and big games with helpful advice and encouragement. He likes your feedback and values your support.

Right now my daughter is being recruited- all I have learned here is making it so managable. I am well informed, know what to look for and ask for, and have the confidance that I am not shooting in the dark . It's a very intelligent way to negotiate this process and the resourses provided her have given me these skills. I hope to continue to give back when I can.

What a shame it has come to this. All these good people.....
Hey!!!

I nearly walked away a number of times but was always compelled to return after a cooling off period--- a few rabble rousers is all it is--yeah I will fight their attitudes because that is my nature and they do not belong here--but there is more good than bad here-- ladies and gents--those you are thinking of leaving --don't !!!!!-- we stick together and the trouble makers will leave.

I guess my point was that even tho your son is going on to college, his story is not a "done deal".

Our son finished his first season at The Hanger and we hope that he gets to start this season there as it is only 105 miles from our front door, and they compete against teams within 1/2 hour from our house. He heads to Tucson on Friday and awaits his assignment ... we can only hope it is close, but will get to wherever he is assigned at least once.
FutureBack.Mom, I probably mis-stated "done deal". Was just trying to make the point that I was not asking them to stay for us, but for all the other players coming up...the 06's, 07's, etc....we still have to decide which college...and we think there will be a few more...so it's down to decisions for us...and this site is helpful in that regard too....it's just a lot less stressful now.....knowing he will go on and play....and that's what I meant by "done"....we are done worrying!

I try and contribute to the site, and will continue to do so....but....my knowledge of the game is very limited....that's why contributers like you, BigHit, TR, TPM and OPP, and many others, are so important....

Finally, "done deals" are probably relative.....your son looks to Tucson, while mine looks to law school after college....I think the world could use more ball players than lawyers....but he didn't ask my permission this time....again, good luck and best wishes for your son.
PIC,

You wonder why your name is mentioned? I am not even one of your detractors but when I read what you recently wrote, I just had to call you on it but you've yet to respond.

In your few paragraphs you managed to demean everyone from union workers and blue collar workers to baseball lovers.

Once again, here is one more chance to respond. Do you stand by what you said and how you said it, or would you like to take this opportunity to make a fresh start?

Here is my original post....

quote:
PIC,

You write,

quote:

I pause all the time, take a moment to understand the underlying meaning of a post and usually find it to just be another attempt at insult or contemptousness for civility.

Look Mr. Hokieone, I know exactly why I'm being attacked on a personal level. People feel insecure when dealing with someone they perceive is trying to be uppity...but I refuse to act as a lowly uneducated peon from below the border just satisfy there own environmental comfort zone.

I didn't go all those years to school, spend 30 years in Hi-tech, to now, all of a sudden try to pretend that I'm a blue collar union member.

I am who I am, and I have dealt with much tougher guys then this crowd believe me.

Men who run companies are a lot tougher then wannabe coaches and BB hangers-on.

End quote

PIC,

You come up with some good stuff and build a little credibility and then you p i s s it all away with one of the most self centered, egotistical few paragraphs this board may have ever seen. In one quick swoop you demean others while believing that you are elevating your stature.

With you being the self appointed, educated historian among other things, I challenge you to reread what you wrote and tell us what you think Abraham Lincoln would have thought about it.

Would Abe deem your words worthy of an educated statesman or would he believe they would more likely originate from a simple fool?

OPP and Big,

I don't care about agendas, I don't care how wonderful someones son is that won't name who they are.

I have met Zack, have a "connection" without having ever met OPP or Big.

Simple stuff, please continue to give your love and knowledge of the game. Give to us that want and appreciate it. My boys are not big time, just guys who love the game with parents who love and respect it as well.

If the board has gone "down hill" it is because guys like Leftydad have left.

OPP and Big, please say it ain't so!
