Just have to share. Many of you have read post from me and about my son.Tonight we had our first pre season, against a good team. we were down 5-0 in the 6th. My son hit a runner in to make it 5-1. in the top of 7th we were able to get to their pitcher and it became a 5-4 game and we had runners on 2nd and third with two outs. they had brought in a kid who is one of the top pitchers and is going to a D1 school. He had only given up one homerun ever and had a era of 1.044.Two outs and one strike and he pitches 90 mph according to scouts in the stand. My son took him yard dead center field. three run homer to make the game 7-5 and we won holding them in the bottom of 7th. It was so exciting, I had tears in my eyes because my son has worked so hard and has so many naysayers . it was really nice the coach from the JC that he is going to had already heard about it and called him tonight. His HS coach also called and told him that his hard work is paying off and how proud of him he was. I just had to share this with all of you, because your my baseball connection. My son went to bed on a cloud tonight. His team came back and won and he had 4 RBIs.What a game and it was so fun. I love baseball.

Really Cool! I am so happy for your son (and you) what a night! I think it says a lot about your son that the JC coach called and the HS called also, when we hear stuff around here about parents and players that may be unhappy about their coaching situation, it is nice to hear about coaches that are supportive and care about their players (probably most coaches in my opinion). Good luck in season, and bring on some more highlights!
Ahhhh the baseball stories are finally coming in!
Hallelujah!
We still have snow on the ground, freezing temperatures, and son's team is stuck in the basketball gym. ( wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! )

Great game details fanofgame!!

Perhaps we can now change that to " had so many naysayers. " Wink

Never, evah, evah evah,...listen to the naysayers!!

Special moments indeed!!
So glad you shared with us.
Thank you. Smile
In the interest of sharing great stories, I will share my story about my son's first pitching start of the season just last week.

He is a senior LHP that has attended some showcases and prospect camps in his Sophmore and Junior years but got very little attention. He lifted weights and enrolled in a velocity development program over the fall and increased his fastball velocity to 83-85 MPH. At 6'-1" and 145 pounds he is a classic late bloomer.

He plays for a small D4 school that gets very little attention from local scouts and colleges, especially since were located in a rural mountain community. On Wednesday he got his first start of the season against the 2006 D1 section champions in the tough central valley of California. Four colleges coaches were in attendance, including the college he most wants to play for. He started the first batter off 3-0 but kept his composure and came back to get a strike out, followed by a pop up and ground out. He lead the 2nd inning off with a 3-2 count and just missed with a fast ball to give up a lead off walk. That was the only batter he allowed on base all game. He very effeciently went one inning after another striking out batters, getting pop ups and ground outs. Only one fly ball was hit to the outfield. The catcher very effectively mixed fast balls and change ups (his best pitch) along with a few curves and cutters. The opposing pitcher only gave up one run in the fourth inning so we were on pins and needles until the very last out. He finished with a 1-0 win, complete game No HITTER, nine strike outs and one pitch away from a perfect game. After the last out, he was mobbed by his team mates and had conversations with each of the scouts. The no hitter was reported in several local paper and today a feature article of him and a fellow senior pitcher is on the sports page chronicling their success.

Since his first game he has had follow up calls and emails from college coaches everyday. He is scheduled to meet with the coaches of his preferred school this weekend. The opposing team has went on to win their next three games and score 32 runs in those games.

Mom and Dad are very proud and the future while still unknown, looks much brighter for our sons college aspirations.
DG,

awesome. Just got to love those late bloomers, my son is one also. My son was in the paper today and my husband had it taped on his bathroom mirror this morning when he woke up and on my bedside table. Hope both our boys and all the boys who work so hard can post great stories this season. Love to read this type of stuff. Its what the game of baseball is all about. the success and the failures but never give up and fight with all you got. someone will notice.
DG,
I looked him up and he's pretty young for his grade. One of the few younger for his grade than mine. Is the 83-85 on a JUGS or Stalker? Either way that's a pretty nice improvement from his showcase #'s back in '06. When the guys who had to learn to pitch to be effective jump in velocity the results can be pretty impressive when they put the pitching and the velocity together.

Hard to match those stories, but little things count to us parents. Mine got his first varsity inning and after giving up a jam shot infield single/error (nice play to get ball and then with plenty of time a rushed throw, would've been a clean single with a weaker fielder) and a jam shot that fell in he got an infield pop up, an infield chopper and a 3 pitch K.
