Note that Mississippi State already has commitments from (3) 2017's (all were offered last year as freshment), (1) 2018s and (1) 2019 (that's a kid who just started 8th grade).

From the link above Mississippi St. is using PG showcase ranking in their announcement of each commitment.  But are commitments binding?  Can the college uncommit later on?

Nothing is final until the NLI is signed senior year. If the kid doesn't develop into the player they believe he will be they will tell him his chances of getting on the field are remote. What kid wants to go where he won't get a shot?

Basically, verbal commitments are nonbinding to either party but signing a Letter of Intent usually is binding. In some states, minors can not be held "bound" by a contract.

I would also note that with the  numbers  returning  for the 2015/2016 season and the 18 NLI/commits, MSU will have a roster with as many as 50 players.

Certainly, some of that number will be drafted and sign  from the group of 9 juniors and 18 NLI/commits. It is unlikely that number will be 15.  This year it appears there are 42 competing for 35 roster spots and even less slots getting significant playing time. The numbers alone should be very enlightening on the level of talent and competition which will exist must to make a roster spot.  Some terrific players are going to be very disappointed. The numbers should also be eye opening for any 2019 commit on the tenuous nature of such a decision.

Understand that a blog post by some rabid fan is not the university's athletic department speaking.  To my understanding, NCAA rules prohibit official media releases on recruits until the signing period has closed and the NLI's are signed.  (I think there's some leeway for recruited walk-ons somehow, but you still don't see programs touting their recruits from an official source until Nov/Dec of each year.)

My guess is what you were looking at above was a fan who gathered the commitment info off the PG site in the first place.  FYI, the PG site is the best source for such information, if you buy the subscription.

Since your 12u kid is in the area I assume they will be playing the perfect game 12u tournaments they are having this year.  That might be your first place to start but at this age lots will change moving forward.  I think you would be shocked at how many 12u kids in our area know what perfect game is many of them have older brothers playing that age group now.

I'm sure those kids are excited to get that attention so early. Their parents are probably telling everyone they know. The rub is, no other baseball school will talk to them because of their verbal commitment. So, unless they decommit, other coaches will treat them as if they had Ebola and they wil never know if they could get a better offer from a school thats a better fit etc. I assume those young bucks have State as their dream school and this wont be an issue.

LOL! As well you should. I was simply pointing out, for all those contending that thinking about college recruiting so early is a waste of time. In fact, we're getting word that my own freshman son should expect his first offer very soon. We're currently building up the strength to say "not now, thank you." We'll see.

As I've said before, I really don't envy those of y'all getting offers, looks, phone calls at such an early age. Knowing what we went through just for a short period of time, it is both a blessing and a curse to you for contact to come so early.

My son committed Summer between Junior and Senior year and it was perfect. He was more mature. We were too.
