Nashua Silver Knights

The Silver Knights play in the FCBL which is a summer wood bat league made up of "primarily" New England based players ranging from D1 to D3 level.  League website :

The Knights have consistently been one of the top teams in the FCBL and play in one of the nicer parks at Holman Stadium.  They are funded by the same guy who runs the Lowell Spinners.

Head coach is JP Pyne who up until this year was also HC at D3 Daniel Webster College, but is now an assistant at U Maine.

The League is competitive. It's a long grinding season though - 60 games over the summer.  My son played for a half season with the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide a couple years ago after his Freshman year, but didn't play last summer due to being injured at the end of his college season. He'd like to play again, it's just a huge commitment.  Not easy to also hold a summer internship anywhere.  Since he's now closer to graduating he's starting to think beyond the present :-)

John ... Did they play in the old minor league park in OOB. I read it was restored a few years ago. Did your son survive the mosquitos? The minor leaguers joked the first wave swooped in and licked off the bug repellent. The second wave would swoop in on the attack.

Yep - the OOB Tide played at the Ballpark at OOB... Same location that I believe the Phillies used to have a AA team at... Part of the facility was destroyed by fire some years back, but things were rebuilt.  There's stories of it on the Tide website.  In the last few years it's also been the home of the Northeast Region Legion playoffs. Mosquitoes are a way of life in the summer up in these parts... There's a field near us on Lake Massabesic in Manchester - coach for the home team tells anyone listening that Massabesic is the Indian word for mosquitoes...   That drew quite a few laughs and obviously left an impression in my mind :-)

Mine played on that field many years ago near Massabesic, I think your coach may have been right.

When I lived in NH my roommates told me that the mosquito was their state bird!

LOL - OK so I know to send him off with lots of bug spray.

Looking forward to lots of baseball this summer, all within a fairly easy drive!  From what I have been reading the Nashua Knights put on a great season for the local families too.

If anyone up there has a part time job idea for my boy, I am all ears!! (although I don't think they really have much time for that.)

I'll also be looking for some pet friendly hotels near those ball fields.....

In Maine there's a saying about black flies. "They don't just bite, they suck." Talk about welts.

The team should be able to help with a job... He'll have to ask though!  But don't expect much from it - they really don't have a lot of down time. There are games just about every day. OK for you and me it's downtime, but for them 8 hours of ball (between actual game, team workouts, and BS time with teammates), 12 hours of sleep, and 4 hours of eating (and drinking). 

Knights have a good amount of resources and yes, they put on a good show.  Ballpark is a great venue for college kids.  They keep it really nice. They also get good attendance, especially on $1 draft nights and any night with fireworks.

IIRC - you are from CT ... the Knights are in the same division as Worcester and Torrington - so those could be easier drives. Wachusett (Leomnster) and Pittsfield are in the same division, too. They also play Brockton which shouldn't be too bad - of course that all depends exactly where you are coming from.

Thanks for the great info John F. We are looking forward to the summer for MANY reasons now .  Sounds great. Especially those dollar draft nights!
