Pretty bad situation going on at Heartland. The school wants to elimenate the AD position at Heartland. This is manned by Nate Metzger who is also the head baseball coach. Unfortunatley the AD postion is 81% of his salary. Only $12,000 of this salary is the head coaching job. I dont think he would survive on that. He has done nothing but good for this school. Heartland is a very well respected JUCO nationally.

Well I do not watch fox NEWS.I tape delay Chicago tonite. They do the best of ALL local news programs. Not to make a list but our local police dept. is ALL and COMPLETLY paid for by local tax payers. The grants the get whether state or federal are used for equiptment or whatever. From their wages to their pensions its all paid thru the Taxes collected. It will cost just over 1.6 mil. for the up coming year. Was at last finance meeting.....Just exactly do you think pays forthe teachers, police, most firemen.the people working court houses, city hall whatever where does that money come from??????

Back to the OP...
Nate Metzger is not only a first rate AD, but an awesome Baseball Coach & and even nicer human being. Heartland has been very fortunate to have him there as an AD and as their Head Coach. With what he has done with their baseball program in such a short time, and the records they produce, and their players go on to bigger and better things. It's just a matter of time, before he moves up on the coaching ladder. And that will hurt their program tremendously. But, from seeing what can happen in a school, in loosing a top notch, long time AD. And his replacement is extremely underqualified and inept. Believe me, that will sorely miss Metzger in that role too. Heartland needs to rethink this.

Nate is a great guy and coach.  I sent a few of my players to him over the years.  What a shame that Heartland is trying to kill success.  Nate has a very good reputation and so, should be able to land on his feet in some school district.  However, he is doing what he loves and so, should not be treated this way.

To all the teacher haters, ...  I wish I could say what I want to say.  I in my 4th year of pay freeze will enter my 5th year next year of pay freeze have seen my take home pay reduced by over $400 per month and an doing my best to try to talk my daughter out of being a teacher.  Why would anyone every want to do this?  No matter how much good you do, the new norm it to hate on teachers.

If you got the impression I have anything against our teachers(the only ones I know) your off base. Our teachers are the only thing keeping us in this state.I only used our school for an example.I do not know about Heartland but they are in IL. so that means the tax payers help out in funding.JJC is in my district.I pay just over 200.00 a year. From things I have heard coupled with things I have read here I would have a hard time believing that this is from anything Nate has done. That leaves only one other thing to think about education funding and the state of IL.Not only as a state goes its bad.It is going to get alot worse as the state (after taking the process away from the school districts) is over 100 billion behind in pension payments. They raised income taxes 2 years ago to specifacally catch upon the behind pensions.we are farther behind now. This type of cost cutting in this state anyway will get worse.Joliet school district had NO SPORTS for @ 10 years. That will be next.NO SPORTS more intaxes because IL. can't pay thier bills.I have had jobs where we were under pay freezes also. Its the first sign to figure something elseout.Better to move and still make money than to stick it out to the point you have nothing.

coachb25, I am not sure there are that many teacher haters here but when you complain about 400 per month pay cut you should be careful. Took a 39% cut a few years back and also had are pension stolen by the pbgc, yes stolen as it was the only group of employess that actually had it funded properly, so ours will get distributed amongs other employee groups.

Yes the reason was a company that hid behind the ch-11 laws to dump the pensions. That is where most people get upset with the teacher issues. Are you being screwed yes if not now eventually as the state if illinois is bankrupt, was your money stolen and used for other worthless projects by the politicians of this state, heck yes, but sorry I am not willing to pay another dime in taxes to cover that mistake.

The only other thing that blows me away with the teacher profession and yes I know it is not in all district, but yes I don't know another person im our area that likes that we have gym teachers that are over 110,000 per year, sorry I can't take it.
