There is no "opting out" because there is no "opting in."  In baseball...unlike basketball and football, you do not declare for the draft.  If a player is deemed worthy by any particular team's scouts...then an MLB team can pick him in the draft irrespective of signing a college NLI at any level.

 

And if the player does not hire an agent and does not sign a pro contract, then he is fully eligible to play college baseball...even though drafted.  Our own son was drafted out of HS...still went to a D1...then drafted again after Junior year in college...still returned for senior year and then drafted again before he signed.

Yes, your son may "opt out" of the NLI if he signs a pro contract.

 

See section 7b. The NLI would be declared null and void because your son, as a professional, would not have satisfied the NCAA eligibility requirements as of opening day of classes in the fall of 2014
