The financial truth about the New Yankee Stadium was announced months ago.

The way the luxury tax is structured in MLB, you can write it off against any capital investment.

Every penny Steinbrenner is putting into the stadium comes off his luxury tax to MLB..... Thus it's Free and he gets more luxury boxes and higher ticket prices.

It's more complex than that, but that is the jist of it.
Here is a link for drawings of what the stadium will look like (I've never tried to add a link so if it doesn't work sorry). Some pretty cool drawings.

The Old Stadium, as I understand it will not be torn down...it will be a museum.

George is spending his own money...which is better than what DC got. If George can build a stadium and take money away from his luxury tax and thumb his nose at the other owners good for him. Look at Tampa Bay their payroll is less than the amount they receive from the other clubs.
Yankee Stadium has not exisisted since 1975 when they gutted the House that Ruth Built and constructed inside the original walls Shea Stadium. That's when the protests should have occured. Yankee Stadium is horrible, one of the worst in the Major Leagues, but that is because it has not been Yankee Stadium for 30 years.

(sarcasim on)
Yea going to the stadium is probably one of the worst baseball experiences one must endure. (sarcasm off)

It's old, its not perfect, but by no means is it "horrible". And I assure anyone who hasnt been there, that if they get chance and pass, you would be making a mistake.
