Seniors and parents of seniors:  Maybe you verbally committed years ago and are getting ready to sign your NLI.  Maybe you are applying ED to a school that is recruiting you and has done a pre-read.  It feels like you are all done with the college process.  Remember that your schoolwork still counts - you still do have to be admitted to the school!  You may have to submit mid-semester grades from this fall, or end-of-semester grades in January.  If they don't meet the school's standards, you can be rejected, no matter what the coach said to you.  You do actually have to graduate from high school or none of the athletic recruiting will matter.  Baseball players in the spring will be playing their senior high-school season, plus prom, senior days, etc, it's hard to focus on school.  Make sure you understand what grades you need, and then make sure you get them.

my 2020 is a senior now. So far so good. We have HS fall ball so this is actually the toughest part of the school year for him. He's shut down, but still attends every practice and game, He's taking some AP and some dual enrollment courses with the local college that'll transfer to his college. Finished the college application process (ED) last week, FAFSA done yesterday, and I was just in the NCAA eligibility center making sure all is good. Next milestone will be the NLI is November and hope to have everything wrapped by xmas.

I just told him his choices for the summer, outside of training are A) job, or B) taking classes at the local community college to start knocking out some requirements. As expected that's getting some push back.

Great reminders about senioritis....I had senioritis so bad I had to be inoculated in the Fall with a booster shot in the Spring.  To this day, I don't know how my GPA went up senior year....a true modern day miracle.   My kids were much more mature & serious about their senior grades than I ever was.

Best of luck to all applying ED and looking for that special fit!

My daughter caught the disease upon learning she got into Holy Cross ED (loves Holy Cross by the way) last year and she went into coast mode but somehow had her best semester GPA 2nd Semester of Senior year.  Now my son is committed, has applied ED but understands that 1st Quarter and 1st Semester grades are still very important.   Important not to let the grades slide especially with HA......

Ah.   Senioritis.   I remember it well.  I was living in Clearwater, Florida at the time attending Pinellas Park Senior High.  With the great weather in the spring many of us seniors couldn't wait to get to the beach for one last hurrah.  We would literally fidget in our seats.   Two days after graduating I was on my way to Fort Jackson for basic training (US Army) - had already signed up in May and entered under the delayed entry program.
