Let's Play Two Tourney games canceled - at least the ones at OP - I assume they all were...As I understand it, they are going to try for tomorrow...

McLean High School is representing Virginia at the Lions International Tournament in San Diego, Ca. MHS won its first game 15-2, dominating the James Madison Warhawks of San Diego.

That's great news about MHS. It's great to see teams from our area competing and winning against teams that are well into their season!

Doubles work, What other teams will McLean play? Who pitched the game against the Warhawks?

McLean will play Silverado Tuesday and Bishop O'Dowd on Wednesday. After that follows playoff rounds.

As I understand things the trio of Russo, Fitzgerald & Buckley were a combined 11-15 today. Fitzgerald pitched 6 innings for the win. I suspect Buckley will pitch tomorrow.

Thank you, doubleswork. Wondered if Fitzgerald pitched. Keep us posted on the outcomes of the other games. Always like it when Virginia teams can beat California teams.

IMO highly doubtful with the rain we've received, but I'm hoping there's a couple of people who get their fields ready in time.

As far as I know, my son's game is still on tonight at 6PM...actually, now that I think about it, I haven't seen any cancellations yet...Heard GC and DJO were on at 4:15 today too...

McLean High School defeats Silverado of California in Game 2 of the Lions International Tournament in San Diego. The final score was 11-10. Believe Jordan Ghannam gets the win for MHS. Josh Sporz hit a HR for McLean in the first inning.

I heard Westfield won their first game in FL. Not sure about game 2...it was in progress last I heard before cell died...

Stone Bridge beat Osbourn Park tonight 4-3 in 9 innings...Close game all the way with OP taking the lead in the top of 7 and had bases loaded when a DP was turned to end the threat...SB had HR in bottom 7 to send it to extra innings tied at 3...HBP, Walk, balk, Intentional Walk and yet another walk ended the game in bottom 9...

Anyone know who won West Springfield vs. Woodbridge on the other side of the Championship Bracket? The winner there will play SB tomorrow for the Championship at OP...

I'm told that if WS wins, game is at 4:30 at OP...5:30 in Woodbridge if it goes the other way...not sure why the change, but that's what I've heard at this point...

Is Northern Virginia baseball simply superior to baseball in Florida and California, or are we missing something in all of this? It appears to me that the No Va teams are dominating--not just winning--but dominating, their out-of-state opponents. PVI, for example, has won it spring break tournament in South Carolina three straight years and goes for a fourth in the coming weeks. Now, this thread reveals No Va teams winning in what we always thought were hotbeds of great baseball. Are the No Va teams just this much better?

While our teams are above avg when compared to other states, I don't think, as a whole, we are in the same class as Fla and Cal. A couple of tournaments is too small a sample I think.

Woodson 15 Oakton 4 4.5 innings

McLean loses it's first game in Lions Tournament in San Diego to Bishop O'Dowd by a score of 5-3. Game ended with a walk-off HR by Bishop O'Dowd. MHS advances out of pool play, however, as they win the tiebreakers. Two games scheduled for tomorrow. Look for Buckley & Fitzgerald to pitch for the Highlanders.

Woodson 12 W-L 0 in five innings. Breslin hits a grand slam.

In the 3rd place game it was West Springfield over Osbourn Park 11-4. Anyone have the Woodbridge/Stone Bridge championship game result?

Should the Highlanders advance to the finals, the game would be played at 7:00pm eastern time tonight. Denis Buckley is scheduled to pitch that one pending MHS's advancement.

McLean Highlanders defeat Grossmont High School of California to advance to the Finals of the Premire Division of the Lions International Tournament in San Diego by a score of 2-0. Grossmont has won this tourney the past three years from what I have been told.

Sean Fitzgerald picked up the win throwing a mere 53 pitches, but was forced to leave the mound as the rules (very Babe Ruthish)don't allow more than ten innings in the tourney. Josh Sborz came in and took care of business in the 6th and 7th. Key RBI's in the sixth by Riley Beiro and James Oldenburg accounted for MHS's runs.

MHS now advances to the tournament final tonight. Denis Buckley is the likely starter for MHS. Already a GREAT showing by the lone Virginia team in the tourney.

A friend of mine has a son at South County. He said they went 3 and 0 in pool play and they play in the semi's tonight. They are at Myrtle Beach playing in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic.

Lake Braddock over South Miami Senior High 14 - 4 in 6 innings to finish in 3rd place

South County victorious tonight and plays for the title Friday at 12:30.
