Our batter hit a very hard grounder off the foot of the pitcher. The ball rebounded towards the first base dougout into foul territory. The pitcher ran to get the ball and either tripped or dove trying to get the ball. As our batter was going to first, he tripped over the pitcher's legs that were now stuck out in the base path. Before the runner can bet back up, the pitcher jumps up and throws the ball to first for the out. The umpired ruled it an out. Was this correct?
