HS game w/ 2 outs, R on 3rd. Ground ball to 3B; R breaks for home, gets caught in rundown. Catcher makes contact w/ runner who is awarded home. Next two batters go HR, K.

1) is the C's obstruction an "error", hence the run and subsequent HR are unearned, OR can you not assume that an out will be made in a rundown situation and both runs are earned?

Yes obstruction is an error on the catcher in this case.

Rule 10.16 (d) No run shall be earned when the scoring runner’s advance has been aided by an
error, a passed ball or defensive interference or obstruction, if in the official scorer’s
judgment the run would not have scored without the aid of such misplay.

So you need to decide, "Would he have scored anyway?" If yes, earned. If no, unearned.

This stuff isn't easy...
