With Boswell, Shamsky and Kranepool on the bench - why did you have to go with Cliff Floyd? Big Grin

As is my custom when my Metsies go down - I will now go into 12 (Boswell's number) days of official mourning - just bread and water - and sit in a closet with my 1969 and 1986 Met Yearbooks.

See ya on Nov 1st.

You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970

Would that be the same Billy Wagner who got lit up his last two times out? Seems to me that if Randolph was reluctant to use him on no rest after he'd been ineffective of late as it was, that's hard to question. But Wagner's bad series left the Mets short in the bullpen and without many options.

The real question is, where was the offense? You can't win many games with only 1 run.

Had it not been for Chavez's great play last night, it would've been 5-1 at the end. The blame is on the offensive side. Pitching and defense did their jobs.
Wagner had a 10+ ERA for the series; perhaps Willie wasn't trusting him anymore. Can't blame him.

Or, mindful that it was a tie game going into the ninth with the bottom of the order coming up, he was looking to him for a possible 10th inning. Had the game continued into extras, we'd regard it as a wise move.

Rolen (who had looked awful all series until the last few ABs) and Molina (although clutch postseason had a regular season where crossing the Mendoza line was an unattainable goal --- does Willie look at short stats or long? And who has just caught every inning of a tense series) followed by a pinchhitter probably didn't look like too much of a threat.

By now you have gotten out of your basement dwelling and are back into life…

At least ya got 1969 and 1987 and a basement to retreat too. Bullwinkle got no year books to any championship, all I got is a old wet stogie and a half bottle of ripple….geez I don’t even have a basement….

To be nice, my Pads would have fallen over for your Mets, you could have pitched a dead Leo Durocher and the Mets would have still won.

(Briiiiian Giiillless: “For a dead dude, that change up is nasty!”)

Welcome back to the living and out of the payoffs.

Of course, wood. Bullwinkle was too far away to see my tongue planted firmly in my cheek!

Let's see, what did actually happen 20 years ago today. Dad04?

I know what happened 20 years ago tomorrow. Bill Buckner, devestated, attempted suicide by stepping in front of a bus. (Wait for it)

But the bus passed right through his legs. Roll Eyes

(Groans all around!)
The only move or non-move for that matter I questioned the entire night was letting Valentin hit away with only one out and the bases loaded. Why not bunt and push a run in like the Cards did earlier in the game.

He is a lefty so he could have drag bunted down the line - they were back in double play depth so it should have been easily done. Had they done this then Wagner is in at the top of the 9th with a 2-1 lead. Could have been an entirely different ending!!
