I know the Patriot League historically has not offered athletic scholarships in baseball. However, this information may be outdated. Does anyone have current information on that subject and if so, is every school different in the number of scholarships available, or must they all offer the same number? Lastly, with regard to limited number of scholarships, is the manner of breaking them down an individual decision to be made by baseball staff? Thanks.

As far as I am aware, football is the only sport offering scholarships, in the Patriot League, with most of the league limiting it to 15 scholarships per class starting this year (2014). Fordham, has been offering scholarships in football since 2010, but was ineligible to win the Patriot league title during that time. This year they are eligible. Only Georgetown is still holding out, only offering need based aid.
Of coarse, at Army and Navy everyone enrolled is on a full scholarship...
Thanks Birdman. That's what I thought, but I had heard that sometimes some of the scholarships get transferred over to other sports, i.e., maybe just 1 or 2. Obviously, not a lot to work with, but just getting into these Patriot League schools and having the opportunity to play can certainly be looked at as a bonus, especially if it was the baseball talent that assisted with the admission to that academic level of school. Friend's daughter is freshman at Bucknell. Plays volleyball. I know she received some scholarship money that was not merit based. Think her mom told me they had 2 scholarships for volleyball.

Just to clarify, Georgetown is Big East in sports other than football. The Hoyas do offer baseball scholarship money, though my understanding is that they are well short of funding the full 11.7.

Midlo Dad - Thanks for clarifying that. Fordham is also a football only member of the Patriot League, play all the rest of their sports as a member of the Atlantic 10, and do offer athletic scholarships. They are a fully funded (11.7 scholarships) baseball program.
Is this still accurate that Patriot League doesn't do financial aid for athletics/baseball? Specifically curious about Lehigh and Bucknell.

Last time I checked, non-service academy Patriot League schools offer only need based financial aid to all their students....essentially your tuition cost is tied to your family income as it is in the Ivy League. The tough part is getting accepted into these ultra competitive academically focused schools Anything your son is able to earn on top of that need based financial aid package is gravy. Again, the last time I checked Patriot League baseball did not offer athletic scholarships. Possibly this is something to confirm with the recruiter, as the Patriot League has warmed up to scholarships in other sports where they compete with associate members in football, basketball, other sports.
If your son is being considered by one of these Patriot League schools, I would strongly encourage you to run the schools tuition calculator and call the Financial Aid office with questions. The Patriot League schools offer a tremendous opportunity.

Thanks much. He's just at a point of phone conversations with some coaches in the league, so who knows where it will lead, but I needed a little insight after suffering a minor heart attack when I checked out tuition. :-)

I'll echo fenwaysouth's recommendation. The results from these might get your heart back in rhythm.
This is such a great site and the knowledge and advice here has been enormously beneficial to my 2018 son's recruiting process. I am a first-time poster with some direct knowledge related to the question Iowamom23 is asking, so I thought it would be a good time to contribute! My son was recruited by multiple Patriot League schools and recently committed to a non Service Academy Patriot League school. I can confirm that Lehigh does indeed offer baseball athletic scholarships, however the amount of baseball money does appear to be quite limited. If your son is a 2018, chances of being offered athletic money might be impacted by how far along they are in their 2018 recruiting class, as well as the position he plays. I don't have direct knowledge of Bucknell, but I suspect that they also provide some, albeit limited, baseball athletic money. I'd also add that Lafayette explicitly state on their website that they offer ONE baseball scholarship.

Congratulations to your son and family! We thought Coach Leary was a pretty good guy. And Lehigh is a great school.
It's wild to see a Patriot League school have a 2018 commit already...recruiting is moving up earlier and earlier as has been pointed out many times. I'm interested to know as GOV asks if your guy is a pitcher? My 2016 played this Summer with several 2017s who were being recruited by Lehigh (and one committed) but all were position players.

I believe that Patriot League schools have multiple 2018 commits, and my son wasn't the first to commit at his chosen school. Our experience was that the coaching staffs moved pretty aggressively starting in the Fall once son's standardized test scores were known and that they had a comfort level that son was a good fit.

If your son "is" going to Lehigh - great!!! Good choice. Love that school!!!!! Great professors, atmosphere and Coach Leary along with his staff are wonderful. If he is going somewhere else, I am sure he will love it there too. Best wishes to your son.

Thank you for the feedback. My son is thrilled that he has found a great academic and baseball fit for him, one that he has worked hard to achieve. As a parent I am happy that baseball has provided an opportunity at a strong academic school that might not have been there without baseball. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the insights at the site have been very helpful and I want to thank this community for all the great advice that has been shared!
