Penn State Baseball

Hello, our 2011 son is very interested in Penn State University. Would appreciate any insight on how they go about seeing potential recruits. I know that they have a winter camp. Do they use that as a venue to spot recruits? Showcases, tournaments? Thanks in advance for any help.

Most schools use that as a primary money maker for the coaching staff. However, if your son has targeted Penn State, that would be a good option to get him seen and meet the coaches.

It's a state university with half it's players from out of state. Take that into consideration of the recruiting that's being done.

There's a PG showcase at Cust in Flemington the end of October. I'd guess PSU would be there. PM me if you want more information.

PSU has a showcase Aug. 14th and 15th. I don't know anything about it except that it is cheap. $165 for two days. I think my son will be going, but we are going to wait as long as we can to sign up. HS football starts the next day and summer baseball will be long.

PSU seems to recruit from areas where they have found quality guys previously (e.g. West Chester East...not surprising but check the roster. In fact, both the Big Ten pitcher and player of the week came from PSU and East.

Robbie Wine was the recruiting coach at Oklahoma State. When he came to Penn State he put several midwest JuCo players on his roster. When looking at programs it's important to understand how and where they recruit.
