Rips Brewers Keep Brewing Up Surprises

Very nice article on the Rips Brewers, the program in which my son plays. Here's hoping we'll be visiting the Southeast with our group in another year or two.

Thanks to author Jeff Dahn for such a nice piece and Perfect Game for publishing it. Horrocks deserves all sorts of accolades but he's low key and focused on the boys as always. I have a ton of admiration for that guy.

I agree that was a nice article. RIPS is one of the few NW programs that understands the process of building complete ballplayers that can continue to play beyond high school. I haven't always agreed with some of Horrocks' ethics and how he has handled certain situations that have come up but everybody has to learn at some time or another. There are good ball players in the NW and they aren't always recognized on a national level. I think with programs like PG that will change over time.
There are some great players out of the NW. The article was great. I agree with Around the Horn, I also haven't agreed with Aaron's antics, but he draws some great kids.

The NW continues to surprise people with the quality of players that we have here. Taylor, Stars, RIPS, Chaffey, and Timberjacks are all outstanding programs here in the NW that produce collegiate level ball players.
What coaches around the country don't either know, realize or understand is that the Seattle area and the NW in general is an absolute hotbed for talent. If you look at the elite of the elite teams in the NW there is talent stacked up and down the rosters of teams. For example:

Taylor, Chaffey, RIPS, Stars, Baden, Seattle Select, Spokane Dodgers, Portland BBC, and Federal Way Buzz all have college and pro prospects lined up and down the rosters year in and year out. It is a bit of a surprise to me why more D1 coaches aren't coming into Seattle in the summer to check these kids out, because what happens alot is that since there isn't alot of D1's around the NW alot of these kids go JC, which is why schools like Bellevue CC, Edmonds CC, and Lower Columbia CC are mainstays in the national JC rankings and alot of times have more kids getting drafted on a yearly basis than the 4 year schools. D1's could come in and swipe some of these kids away and make their ballclubs better fast because these kids can really play some elite level ball.

Example: Check out the freshman shortstop at Texas Tech who was committed to Bellevue CC until right around June of this last year when Texas Tech flew up and watched him and offered him a scholarship. That's an example of what could and should be happening more often around here.
Rktman and Northwest--Agree with you guys about each of the teams you mentioned. Part of the fun of having a young guy (13U, 8th grader) in one of these programs is watching the older boys prepare for their HS and then summer seasons. Had a lot of fun with my son watching PS Elite League games last summer out at Bellevue and elsewhere. Look forward to it again this summer. Hope to catch some Timberjacks games too.

The org that I'm friendly with is a HUGE fan of PacNW players. If you think about it for a few seconds, I'm sure you'll figure out who it is Smile
