Surprised too that an incoming freshman P would be put on a specific summer league (unless there are pitch/inning stipulations) A number of college programs will use fall games, intersquads to see "what a player has." .  I guess too it's depending on how much HS usage on arm. Son's (position player) coach wanted then to play in summer (no specific league designated), but key was to arrive at campus healthy. Workout routines/goals given upon arrival.  And also for what it's worth, son has noticed that players from his summer leagues who did not get much PT during season at college, struggled to hit in summer league. I say that as it relates to other threads on selecting a "fit" where you are loved, given a chance to compete, etc.
