Our sophomore summer team schedule is out and it includes the Perfect Game 17u nationals in Atlanta GA. We've never been. I assume several of the posters here have and know the area well. Opinions on hotels, proximity, places to visit.....basically some do's and don'ts you can offer about the experience as a whole. Bring it! Thanks

Around the city of Atlanta is a roadway Perimeter that goes ALL the way around the city called 285.

East Cobb is in the NW corner of Georgia so you would get off 285 onto Interstate 75N. A few miles up 75N you will see another major Interstate that bares off to the right called 575. Take that Northbound and it will take you up to the exit you want to get off at. That road is Hwy. 92. From there you can get to the field within about 5-7 min.

Most of your major Hotel chains are south of Hwy. 92 on a road called Barrett Pkwy. (You will pass this exit as you head towards East Cobb) Lots of your major food chains are here as well. Another road you will also pass that has some good eating joints is Chastain Road.

Barrett Pkwy also has a Dick's Sporting goods in case you need to go pick up some baseball incidentals while playing ball that week.

If you have time to kill and want to cool off some, there is a major artery in that portion of town called Hwy. 41 that basically runs parallel of Interstate 75. On Hwy. 41 is a huge major water park called White Water. Might be fun to visit during the summer heat.
Go to the Travel Recommendations forum on this site and browse through for WWBA information. There has been some recent "clean up" (deletions) on the forum, but there is still some good information. You may want to repost your question there. It will start a "new" reference for this topic!

We ate at the Marietta Diner as a team with parents (recommended by PGStaff) and you could easily split meals. Desserts were tremendous. There was also a great BBQ place near Kennesaw that you eat on picnic tables inside.

Our team stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Kennesaw which was a very new nice hotel. Had an indoor pool (which seemed like a negative at first, but all was good) and a very nice patio with fireplace outside. Breakfast was good. WWBA has required lodging which you can find the link on the PG site, and remember that not all games (one, maybe two if you are lucky) are actually played at the East Cobb Complex.

Your team should book your hotel early to get the best selection. Q/Q rooms and suites at hotels will sell out first. Having a hotel with a washer/dryer was a big plus for our team.

I love the website www.tripadvisor.com for hotel recommendations and reviews. Also, it ranks hotels and restaurants. It may help in hotel selection and ideas for where to eat.

Our players went to the Andretti Carting experience (in Alpharetta), which was a little pricey, but they had big fun. The hotel shuttle took some of the players to a nearby bowling alley and later picked them up, which was a nice treat for the parents. We tipped the driver well Big Grin. There is a movie complex (in Marietta I think) that shows movies for $1.75. Makes for a cheap evening.
