2017 son wants to attend PG Main Event Showcase in Ft. Myers this coming December 28-30.  Was supposed to attend NC Mid-Atlantic one last summer but broke ankle and had to take rain check and credit.  Will use it in Ft.Myers.  Anyone ever been?  What to expect?  College scouts there?  I think I listed his primary position as Pitcher, then 1st, then OF.  If primary is Pitcher, will he still hit etc.?

Any info from folks who've been would be appreciated.

Sorry, my first ? Is  always cost vs what he will get out of it depending on his age.  What is his velocity? Is he RHP or LHP?  What do you hope to get out of experience, or what does HE hope to?  Unless he's throwing in 90's  realistically  it will just be for experience of being there.

Does he have list of schools he's interested in yet?  From what I'm getting from this sight the goal is to be seen by schools u r interested in attending. How to make that happen can be several ways I guess. They Always will want to see son play in real games. IMO scrimmages at showcases r nor real games- just showing self in 2-3 at bats or pitching to 6 batters is hard. Many r just there to get good numbers.

If you go keep us posted on your experienc-it may help others thinking of attending one of these.

Well, he is just a 2017.  If he is throwing in the 90's it would be one heck of an interesting experience...

Realistically what your son will get out of it is the ability to measure himself against older players.  It will give him an idea of where he needs to get to performance wise.

I'm not sure about the schedule on this particular showcase.  Some have pitchers throwing bullpens and in games, some just in games.  How much time you get in a secondary position probably depends on what the position is and how many other players are there.

PGStaff will probably be along at some point with specifics on this particular event.

If nothing else, you get to visit Ft. Myers in December and your son gets to play in a professional facility.  There are much worse places to be...

I have a somewhat related question:

Are there benefits to attending this showcase if already verbally committed? Son is a 2015 RHP and believes he should attend for several reasons: has played PG tourneys but never a showcase and would like to stay in the system for future PG opportunities; thinks if he can improve his PG ranking it helps his future college's recruiting class ranking (if that matters); believes it's good to get in front of pro scouts when possible, as we live in an area without too many pro scouting events.  He has no doubts about his verbal commit, is not trying to attract additional college interest and certainly doesn't want to make his committed school think he is.  Any insight/advice would be much appreciated!

My point is they are usu very expensive for what younger kids get out of it. There are college showcases that r cheaper/closer where players can go for the experience and to get out nerves. If your on a good travel team in Summer and hit some good tourn. The players can see where they stand against their peers or kids a little older. I know a few kids whose parents have spent sev thous. In the last yr traveling to many of these events out of state. The kids have pretty decent numbers/scores, but not one school has contacted them from being there. Just realize you will be there in a large group, and if your not ready to put up some good numbers pitching velocity/of vel then you will stand out to no-one. There are both positives/negatives to going. If families have a lot of extra money then by all means go. IMO the quickest way to get recruiting interest is to be realistic and find division that fits your son. It's ok to dream big but if your getting no interest from D1 after a certain time it may be a sign to check out D2 . It may be a better fit and allow son to play more.

Thank you to all who have replied and any others who may do so in future.  All points well taken.  I realize it may be a bit premature for a 2017 and the $600 was already spent on the August/NC event that we had to take a credit for.  So now it is just gas, food, 4-nights lodging for a Florida in December break.  Not as bad as it could be.  Our 2017, is our "only child" and my wife and I are blessed to be able to do some things for our player that other families with 2,3, or 4 athletes can not.  This is our only time thru the process so we, and our son, want to do as much as possible.  Having pushed, no....nudged (better word) our son to do many camps and showcases from a young age I feel he is now oblivious to the guys with clipboards, sunglasses, radar guns, and stop watches. Again we well understand this is not possible for families with multiple athletes.  In that case, this type of event would be a one shot deal sophomore or summer of rising junior year.

Will update after the New Year.  Thanks again for all postings!
