No but there should probably be a warm weather versus cold division. You see how the warm big states are represented versus those with colder climates that are nonexistent. Comparing apples to oranges IMHO schools with 50+ game seasons for some schools versus those who play 20 or so games.

While the best player could come from anywhere, the numbers don't lie.

If you look at the number of players that have played in the Major Leagues and are still active it reveals which states have the most.  It goes in this order...

1. California (by a very long ways)

2. Texas

3. Florida

4. Georgia

These four are way ahead of all other states.  They are also the top four by far at the top level of DI baseball.  Also the draft and any other list that might give clues to where the majority of the best players come from.

There are many top prospects that come from cold weather states every year.  But the overall numbers would say the best competition and the best teams would be more likely to come from those states that produce the most talent overall.

Therefore, any national list of players or teams would very likely have a larger number from certain states. So for whatever reason, longer season, better weather, or whatever, there always will be "more" top players coming from warm weather states.  Once again, that doesn't mean all the very best players, because the very best can, and have, come from just about everywhere.  There just happens to be more of the them in certain areas.

BTW, there are very good teams all over the country.  The final rankings are always much different than the preseason rankings.  And there has been cold weather states that have produced the final #1 team.  However no matter what it looks like, beginning or end, you will always see a lot of teams listed from certain states.

I wish people would quit thinking we rank teams or players based on how many PG events they attend.  Of course, if a player happens to be one of the best and we see him, we will rank him accordingly.  However we have seen players all over the country that have not been to a PG event and we rank them accordingly.  Guess what, when we see one of those we try real hard to get him to a PG event.  Then everyone later sees he went to a PG event and it starts all over again.

Our reputation is far too important to start favoring teams or players for any reason.  That said, we do have to see a player somewhere along the way or we would just be guessing.  Accuracy is far too important to just guess.
