just got back from a PG and here was my take, please let me know others' thoughts and if I am off-base...

Because these showcases are so big (200 kids at ours) it is very hard to get noticed just for being a good baseball player...sounds weird I know, but it is almost like those skills are secondary to the following---from what I can tell, these 3 things in order get you noticed:

1. Arm strenght---upper 80's as a pitcher, low to mid 80's across infield and upper 80's from outfield will get you noticed.
2. Speed---7.0 60 or below and you are noticed. If you are a 6.6 60 or something like that, all over you.
3. Size--either size right now or projectability...they love size. 6'3" and better and bigger bodies that drive the ball/hit bombs are first noticed.

After that, your ability to hit for average and field the ball matters but my experience is that it isn't as important as the 3 things above. Crazy I know, but I guess they feel like if you have these tools they can teach you other fundamentals? Anyhow, if your son does not have good numbers in the areas listed above, PG might be a waste of $$ unless you are just looking to get a video out on the web.

Just my opinion!

you hit it ,,great post.honestly I think any parent that wants their kid to get a "better" look by colleges have an advantage by spending the 200 bucks for a showcase like this..when attending an iowa baseball clinic coach Dahm said he gets a vast majority of his players from the PG website..for what its worth

Great answers, but to clarify . . . will coaches at PG events this fall still be looking at any 2013s?

My son plans on doing the World Showcase in Ft. Myers first week of January. My guess is, if there are any, it will be mostly D2, D3 and JUCO, with very few D1s. Of course, there are always exceptions, but most of the d1 will be done or close to done and be out of $.

Bingo! PG (and most local) showcases and college camps are a waste of time and money if you don't have AT LEAST one of the 3 tools above. Folks, these guys are looking for the studs. If your kid is a really good, decent size ballplayer with good speed and a good arm, your wasting your time.

They are looking for GREAT speed and/or a GREAT arm and/or a BIG bat. Good does not turn heads. Even real good...

It's just the way it is, and if you coached, you'd be looking for the same thing.
