Son is a high academic 2012 who is also an all-conf football player which just started today so he misses the fall stuff. We live in the upper midwest. I am trying to plan camps/showcases for late fall and winter. He was at East Cobb in July on both the 17U and 16U teams and attended the Stanford all-star camp.

Here are my questions keeping in mind 1)he has not yet done a PG showcase and 2)given football will have just ended the early November Nat. Underclass session 1 seems a bit early and he likely would not be ready following football.

1. In looking at the Showcase schedule his options appear to be 1) Nat. Underclass Main Event 12/28-30, 2) Nat Underclass Session 3 - assume early January, or 3) California Underclass which based on last year's schedule was MLK weekend and assume it will be the same in 2011. There are of course some prospect camps at one or more of the colleges he has some interest in that would conflict with the Nat. Underclass Main Event over the holiday. A couple of possibilities I was kicking around are:

- Go to the Main Event and miss the college prospect camp and also possibly attend the California Underclass if its MLK weekend. Thoughts on two showcases that close together?

- Go to college prospect camp and do the Session 3 underclass and possibly do California Underclass soon after? He might want to go to school on the west coast and if so I would assume going to the California underclass would be beneficial?

- Go to college prospect camp and only do the Session 3 or the California underclass but not both - which one?

4. We will try to get him to the Academic Showcase if it is late enough in June. Would have gone this year but school in our state doesn't get out until 11th or 12th of June. Hopefully the showcase will be later in June this year. If there is a Midwest event in Cedar Rapids in April like last year we may try to get to that as well depending on the HS schedule. I am sure we will be back for the 17U WWBA next summer and hopefully the Stanford camp again.

Sorry for the ramble. Thoughs as we make a plan? New to this and want to make the most of this critical exposure year without footfaults.

Agree 100%. If your son is looking at academic schools, Headfirst is the way to go. You won't find many if any top baseball schools here, or pro scouts, but you will find some of the top academic schools with accessible coaches looking to fill their rosters with qualified baseball players.

On the one hand Headfirst looks like a well attended showcase. On the other, it is very pricey at $850
I wonder how kids whos parents cannot afford such prices ever can get noticed in this modern system.
