I got a great chance to talk to a representative from a prepatory school of interest today, and it just so happened that he is the head baseball coach as well. We talked about the school the social life as well as academics and baseball. Since I am a rising junior, he basically eluded that it would probably be in my best interest to apply for the school for a Post-Graduate year after I graduate from my home HS instead of applying to their school for HS junior/senior years. It got me wondering, how much does a PostGrad year help in recruiting? Could that one season really help a lot for physical maturity, better numbers and attraction from scouts?

Generally I would think that being a year older through the entire HS process would help more than adding a PG year on at the end, but as long as there would be reasonable exposure during the PG year then that might help some players. However, the main scouting season for most D1 colleges is the junior season although performance as a senior can certainly help.

There are some newer rules in place intended to discourage greyshirting. I don't know how they apply to PG years. 3finger may have addressed it at some point so you may want to do a author search on 3FingeredGlove to see if it has already been covered.

Why not stick with your current HS and wait to decide if you need a PG year from an academic or physical maturity standpoint somewhere closer to graduation?
