Anybody here have any knowledge or experience or know anyone who has undergone this type of therapy? I talked to a parent who's son is a senior pitcher on a college team here in the southeast. As a freshman, he had elbow problems and after being told there was a strong probability of TJ surgery he sought a second opinion from Dr Andrews who recommended this PRP therapy instead. He has had a very successful college career without elbow problems. I just don't know how successful this therapy has been except for this one guy.

I won't name him, but I know a player who had a significant tear in his UCL. They chose PRP instead of surgery, and he regained his original velocity and control. However, I believe that his therapy and recovery schedule was set up to take months, so it may not have been hugely faster than TJ surgery. PRP was presumably less risky, and he didn't have to relearn how to throw accurately, whereas TJ recovery usually involves getting used to the new length of the UCL.
When we asked Dr. David Altchek, Mets team doc and one of the most respected elbow and shoulder surgeons about PRP for Juniors UCL tear, he as adamant that it wouldn't work. His comment was that all the stories about miracle healing are anecdotal and there isn't a single study that shows any benefit.
