New Members have found the HSBBWEB. That is great news. That is apparent from the number of new members who have recently begun posting on the HSBBWEB. We value the variety of opinions and that can benefit all of those of us that frequent the Illinois Forum. It is one of the busiest, if not THE BUSIEST,forums on this site with regards to states. We (Old and New members alike) do, however, need to keep in mind that this is not a “Flaming Site.” Opinions are great but we need to remember that they are just that. We, including myself, would all be served in the best interest of this site to review the agreements on posting and be reminded that posting here is a privilege. A privilege I look forward to each and every day so that I can learn more about Illinois Baseball.

This site is all about how to teach dads (and moms) to promote thier kids. If you missed that point, you missed the whole point of this website.

This website is not designed for Select Coaches/Showcase operators/Glove Salesmen to flaunt thier wears, but rather for Dads, moms and students to be able to learn how to get their kids to the next level.

In the past couple of years, there has been a huge influx of people that think otherwise.

And SIBullets, what is the difference between a dad promoting his kid that you promoting your players? By promoting your players, or having your logo next to your name, isn't that a form of self promotion?

And on another note, Bob, the creator of this site, and Julie, the current owner, are very protective of the actual kids that post here. They are given lots of leway, because they are not adults. Refering to them as "punks" is exactly what Coach was trying to get this board to avoid. The name calling is not benificial to anyone.
CoachB25,

Great post, and thank you for your efforts to keep things positive and remind members (new and old), of the Board Manners.

I recently asked CoachB25 to act as a Moderator for the Illinois forum, so please help him out in any way you can! Cool

KellerDad,

Thank you for your post, you explained the intent of this website very well!

We have a great site, and for many of those who have been around for a while, a strong sense of community. I think sometimes it takes new members a while to realize what this community is all about, especially if they jump right in and start posting before reading very much. Here's a thread from a few months ago that might give everyone some ideas about how to deal with newcomers who get started on the wrong foot:

Forum Trolls and Flames

If any members have a serious concern about a specific post or pattern of posts (not just a difference of opinion, but a serious rules violation), feel free to send a PM to CoachB25 or to me.

Thanks,
Julie

To defend SIBullets ...

He is (I assume) referring to the "I am the greatest in the world", the "player X sucks and is overrated", the "Only baseball in Chicago is good, downstate schools are filled with hillbillies" - and the return fire from those players downstate.

How many posts did the players at Notre Dame need to start about their school? The players? The conference?

That is the self-promotion that the whole community could do without.

If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong .... but most of the posters get with it after a few days and the Illinois board returns to normal.
Keller.
I guess I did'nt elaborate what I meant by self promotion. That was my fault sometimes I don't type out what I actually mean. I apologize. The self promotion I am talking about is when it is obvious a player comes on and says "I am going to have a huge year" or "we pounded that team last year and I went 4-4 off of this guy", and so on. I have no problem with a parent who comes on here to promote when it is done with tact and not at the detriment of others. Hope no one else took it the wrong way. Thanks for the defense ratboy you said better than I did.

Well, we are in the middle of Winter! Heck, no we're not, it's just beginning. In our forum, we have such a great advantage in that our state promotes a two class system with outstanding baseball in both classes. We let territorial issues divide us when we should recognize the quality of ball being played throughout the state is one of our main strengths. This is a public forum. Naturally, you will run the gauntlet of posters. Some have agendas that benefit the site. Others do not. All have some agenda. Why not be a positive influence? One would recognize instantly the posters that use sound reasoning, have seen enough ball in the state to understand the competition throughout the state and finally, have all of our interest at heart by promoting Illinois Baseball. I could name dozens of posters here that should they question any of my posts, I would recognize that I've messed up because they are so knowledgeable. Others, well simply put, they don't form valid arguments, post to put people down and/or in general deal in negativity. WHY? I don't know. Let's all agree that we have something special. Let's work together to ensure that those that need this site do so in the spirt that Bob (Chief Cook and Bottlewasher) and Julie (One of the nicest people I've ever corresponded with!) have established.
As Julie stated, if you have a problem in this forum, please send me a pm. I'll then address the issue in a manner which Julie and I have discussed and which will be in the best interest of this site.

Kellerdad,

Since you lived here you should know that people from Illinois are cheap! I often read the posts in Texas and Florida and they often look much like this area. You are telling me that this site is for Parents who have been through the process and wish to share the knowledge to others who may or may not have the same chance. I guess that would make perfect sense, disregard SIU's posts, he has only spent his life in the game, and not as a parent. I wouldnt listen to a word I say because I dont have a kid .
If you lived here(midwest)you must know that our Travel, Select or whatever you want to call a Summer team, is a little bit behind TX. Although the Midland Redskins might argue that.
Is there a bunch of junk on these things, absolutly! Not
just here but its everywhere. Anytime a Parent , coach, ex player , scout, anyone who can share experiences from the game talks, I think someone can learn. I thought this is what your site was for. I guess I wsnt here in the beginning.....
Kellerdad, In regards to your last post. I think there is a big difference between learning to get to the next level and endless self promotion from some of the dads. Learning to get to the next level for the players will come from the people that contribute such things as workouts, hittings, pitching, fielding and other skills that I see on here all the time and I keep reading to see what I can learn to help some kids get to the next level. Others give the players ideas on schools, coaches, camps, showcases or mabe a team to help them develop skills to get there or what their strenghts or weakness might be, or what to expect when they get there. I have learned quite a bit here from coaches, dad, players ect, and I will take whatever I can from the site. As far as the hs players that go back and forth, not much different than when I was a kid we just didn't have the ability to do it electronically so it was more localized. You can tell the dad's that just throw their kids name out there, that is the promotion that I get tired of, however I am learning to ignore most of them.
BobbleheadDoll:

Those are nice facilities aren't they?

Midland used to be strictly Cincinnati area talent, and always quite good, but they decided they had to keep up with the Joneses, talent wise, and cast their net nationally and beyond most likely.

I believe some other teams in the Cincinnati area were formed in response to that development and they operate much like the original Midland organization...drawing only from area talent. This was true as of a couple of summers ago.
CoachB25,

Some would say that it is sometimes hard for me to fiqure out the simple concepts, but I just don't think the ideas presented in your thread is that hard to fiqure out. This site, I believe is about the promotion of high school baseball, the players and associated topics. It should not be about the demeaning of players, teams, not understanding that the top 15 year old hitters could only possible play for two or three "special" teams that are located in the suburbs of Chicago.

One would hope that player promotion excludes those who anaylze talent with sentences that include "we view player *** as a .......talent that bla bla bla. Many of us have various ties to the game ...this is not the format to promote your company.

During my short time on this site that most of the times it is not the kids but the parents that are out of line in regards to comments made in refernce to specific schools, travel programs, coaches and players.

As I have stated before, the fact that a young man is selected to be a member of any high school baseball team is a wonderful accomplishment. Thanks for keeping things on track. If I am wrong please let me know.

P.S. I will be B-Lining to Highland in a few weeks ..promise to wave.
Isc, as a coowner of an athletic recruitment company, I am sure you know "those two or three special teams" as you call them, not only have players from the suburbs, but recruit in Indiana, Wisconsin, and now Michigan and Florida. When you are talking about top 15U hitters, I am sure there are some from other areas in the state. But most of the top hitters have played on these elite teams at one time or another the last few years (these player like Briggs tend to go from team to team). As other posts have said, some of the stats on players that don'tplay on these top travel teams are scewed because they are not playing the same level of competition.
bballdad1954,

I think you missed my point. This site sometimes is used as a format to beat up players, teams, programs and self promotion for baseball related companies. As a father of one former high school baseball player and one current high school player, I would like to see this to be an information and player promotion site. That is only my selfish desire.

As far as your post, the pyramid gets sharper once past 15/16 years old age level. Most of the travel teams/legion teams at 17/18 are pretty darn good. The number of teams available at those levels are limited. Players who play on national level teams certainly are talented. Some high level players however choose not to play on such teams. Since most if any of these young men will play in the "bigs", baseball should be played for the love of the game and/or to secure higher education opportunities and did I mention for the love of the game.

I would best that some of the best hitters in America at 15 years old don't even live in area that have travel baseball. I would bet that some of the best hitters in the world live in countries that don't have running waters. If you play for for the love of the game how can you get screwed."
bballdad, as far as doing anything to help his son I understand. I guess i feel the best I could do for a son or anyone for that matter is to teach him the best I can, develop his abilities to the best that I can and let him stand on his own 2 feet and do the best he can and see where it leads for him, not for me. As far as my shorts they are not in a bunch but thanks for asking.
I didn't mean to say "skewed" not "scRewed", sorry. I don't disagree with anything you have said. I repeat, the post was about 15U hitters LAST year. It didn't mean they would continue to be great hitters, it didn't mean that there aren't other great hitters elswhere. I repeat, the best hitters I have seen at Illinois 15U are concentating on some of the elite teams that have been mentioned. TBS agreed. I don't see what is so controversial? Also, while I don't do it, I don't see what is wrong with a father bragging on his kid. It doesn't take away from any of the excellent information contained in these threads.
It's very easy to refer to some of the new members on this website as young punks with names like "I'd Tap that", "Mr. Nasty" and "Big Tymer". It's also easy when people use quotes like "all eyez on me".
However, I think that is important to remember that this is still just a website and we have to understand that many people are just in the habit of posting junk.

Ask MnMom, our founder Bob, beenthere, and many, many others if they believe that this is "still just a website". Do most of us believe that baseball is just a game? It is easy to refer to some of the new posters as young punks, all one has to do is read their drivel. This site should never accept the posting of junk as OK and just the musings of today's youth. Take this stuff to your chat rooms where you don't even have to know how to spell.

I hate the snow!

Itsrosy,
Thats exactly my point, it is not ok to have junk posters shoot down players or teams. But there are many people who don't understand what this website is. When a new member gets on this website its somewhat understandable that he writes that junk here becuase it is written everywhere else.
Perhaps I was not clear with last post I hope I am now.
In 6 years I hope my son is a professional baseball player........but I hope even more that he is in medical school because that is far more likely. He has a chance I think because not only does he play baseball but he can write......and understand what others write, at least that which is written well, which unfortunately not often here from a lot of the players. Rosy I love the snow!
Goose, exactly my point. I was attempting, in a nice way, to ask those people both new and old to be sure to consider the spirt of this site. I don't think it is simply about young or old. Naturally, some of that exist. However, I can name an older poster that "flames" on a regular basis. We can all think of some of the "young" posters who are valuable assits to this site. IMO, it is about being "new." Simply put, perhaps the parameters weren't reviewed and so, some revert to what they know. We would again ask that class be displayed and that we all come together for the sake of baseball in our state.
