Does anyone have some insight into this program? I have been looking at colleges this summer and visited this campus last month. I know the academics are very good at both Pomona and Pitzer, but the baseball program did not have a good season. I didn't get an opportunity to meet any players or the coaching staff. Also, there's another school that shares the same campus, Clarement McKenna and they have a baseball program, too. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hit and run-

I'll send you a PM in the next day or so. I've got more info on this topic then I'm sure most anyone wants to see in a post here. biglaugh

I will say that Pomona is just an amazing school and the Coach and baseball program are first rate IMO.
As far as their recent record, they tied for 2nd in the conference this year and won the conference in 2002 and 2003. Claremont is their arch-rival, so I won't go there laugh
H&R- first of all, how's your search been going?

Still got nothing but good things to tell you as far as P/P. Second game of the season is tomorrow, weather is beautiful, about 70+.

As you may know, there's 5 schools that make up the Claremont consortium of colleges and you can take classes at all 5, eat in the dorms of all 5 etc. so you get 5 schools for the price of one Wink

As far as baseball, only seen the one game so far and the team certainly looks like it will be competitive. They play some of the top D-3 teams in the country (Chapman, Cal Lutheran, LaVerne, Linfield, Eastern Connecticut, Wesleyan, etc.) Season goes from 1/28 to 5/1 so it's fairly spread out and not too much travel so school work does not seem too severely impacted. My son says the coaches have been great and he's very impressed with how well the practices are run and the instruction he's getting. He really has nothing but great things to say about all aspects about the school, baseball program etc.

The facilities are excellent, I've seen the locker room, weight rooms etc. and they are as nice as many D-1 schools. There's no skimping on equipment, uni's etc. They have four uniform changes.

There were a few hundred people at the first game, which is not much less than you get at times at some of the local D-1 programs such as Pepperdine and Loyola and at most Southern California area games (whether D-1, D-3, Juco etc.) you'll always find a scout or two.

If you have any specific questions, fire away.
Sirguy - Wesleyan plays Pomona-Pitzer on 3-12. I'm planning on being there. Happy to give you a report-who should I be looking for.

BTW I presume your son is having a great time at Wesleyan. Great school, great coach from what we saw. It was one of the schools my son strongly considered but ultimately, Pomona could not be beat Wink.

H&R- you probably have the right name, 'cause he didn't play laugh

No, he's not redshirting, I don't think that is really done at the school. Academics appear to be first and foremost and they want you to graduate in 4 years (besides, that 5th year of tuition Eek)

I think its all just part of the freshman transition and playing time needs to get earned, as it certainly should be.

BTW, how's your search coming, did you ever see my pm to you?
