I'm 14 and going to be a freshman this upcoming school year. I'm pretty versatile and have experience playing anywhere. I'm 6 foot 3 and 160 pounds with a good arm. I'm a 3 spot hitter with decent power. My high school team hasn't had any good catchers for the last three years so if I catch (my favorite position) I have a good chance of playing on JV or Varsity earlier. However, I'd like to play college baseball and think I might have a better chance at third or first than at catcher but I don't know. I'm wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what position I should try out for. Thanks.

play catcher, because if one, its your favorite position play there becuase you will have fun playing, two you say if you play catcher you will play on JV or varsity where you will face better competition than a freshman team, and as for college, my HS catcher was a utility guy who could play middle infield and outfield, and he caught throughout his entire highschool career and now is playing outfield in college, so just cuz you play cathcer in highschool doesnt mean you will play there in college, so say a school sees you as a great hitter and alright defensively behind the plate they could easily just change your postion, but just go out and have fun.
if your a 6'3 freshman it sounds like you have a good frame and your plenty young. hopefully you get to hit the weights get a little bigger and you could play any position, especially if your fast. play your best at every position youll find a fit.

i started high school thinking i was a 3rd baseman, became a ss, then OF, when other catchers failed i became the starting varsity catcher. now im in college i pramarily catch but i also pitch and play outfield.
